McCloud River Fly Fishing Report

Good solid fishing on the Truckee River.
Big pumping flows and good solid fishing. Super good actually. I’m not blowing smoke up your ass. If you understand how to fish at these flows, you will get rewarded like all these folks.
If you’re not good at the high flows, take this class. You’ll probably come up here, loose a rig on about every cast and go home.
So nymph up in...

Gorgeous spring weather and blue skies have dominated the skies in the Northern Sierra for the last few weeks, and the flows keep pumping at a high level on the Truckee River. At the Granite campground station on Hwy 89 the flows are at 1,530 cubes, add in Donner Creek at 443 cfs and you will find the flows through the town of Truckee at 1,973. Along the Glenshire...

Well? Hordes of anglers will start making their way into the Eastern Sierra over the next couple of days for the big opener for the trout season. Crowley is ice free and it looks like the weather will actually be cooperative. Some of the higher, shady lakes such as Convict are still frozen solid. The snow is melting quickly, but it is...

The Sacramento drainage is slowly subsiding and coming closer to its normal level. Fishing should remain good thru May.

The San Francisco Bay is started fishing well in early March. LCO teammate Will, and I checked out Crissy Field at a Low tide on March 13th, 2019, we were able to wrangle a smaller California halibut., this seemed to mark the start of the season.
The past month has been excellent for schoolie size striped bass from shore, places like Marin and Crissy field have...

I guess the big news is that Crowley is ice-free, there will be plenty of water for the big Trout Opener. Some of the higher, shady lakes such as Convict are still frozen solid. The snow is melting quickly, but it is still very winter-like with chilly morning temperatures, frost, and occasional snow showers. You can always count on...
