Finally some spring weather on the Truckee River.

Big flows and sunshine, well, except for the last couple days on the sunshine. Spring has sprung.

Flows are up around 3,700 k here in the Hirsch, higher as you go downriver. Big pumping flows. Much like back in spring of ’17. We still have a lot of snow to melt. Get used to it. Don’t think you’re gonna escape the flows...

The McCloud river opens in a couple weekends.  Along with the general trout season.  We’re looking forward to it.  The road into Ash Camp from McCloud Reservoir is closed just below the dam.  Foot access to the PCT is an easy walk down the road to Ash Camp.

The Upper Sac is dropping into shape and more places to catch a fish are starting to appear.  Things are happening here.  

Rafting, hatches, and some nice fish are in the near future. The outlook is good for an extended Spring season on the Upper Sac.

Striper fishing in the Delta is good.  Numbers have dropped over the last couple of days but still, you can have a decent day with some good quality fish mixed in.  You can catch them deep, shallow and on the surface.  

Its a fun time of year when you have to catch them your favorite way.

Striper fishing on the Delta has been up
& down the last few days. Some days they are on a good bite, other days they just don’t seem to bite much. Also, we have had a windy week which has made it very challenging to target the fish, wind casting skills were at a premium but winds seem to be tapering down.

Had a great clinic this weekend on the Truckee River.

Other than that, not too much difference since a week ago.

Flows have gone up to almost 3000k here in Hirschdale with more releases from Boca. We really aren’t getting the big runoff yet, but a slow good melt. We’ll get that soon enough. For now enjoy these flows while they last. Clarity ain’t bad either.

The Skwalas are starting to wind down on the Owyhee. There are still some bugs around, but every day there seems to be fewer and fewer. The BWO’s are still coming off in force especially on the overcast day. They usually show up around 1:30 and stick around for an hour or two.
