Klamath River Fly Fishing Report

John Rickard reports on 3.14.19

Klamath River Fishing Report.

Our guides will be on the Klamath River this weekend running boats down the Iron Gate stretch. The water is high and off-color but where you can get good drifts, the fishing remains consistent.

In steelhead fishing there is a massive difference between brown water and greenish-brown water, learn to love the off-color and use tactics that...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt Koles reports on 3.14.19

Still a bit cold and snowing.

No snow here in the Hirsch, but still snowing on top. Big winter so far.

Lots of water in the river too. About 1,600 k here, and just a bit higher in Nevada. Snows melting a bit and getting to the river is a little easier this last week.

Good fishing if you can find the soft water. The Truckee River will stay high right into summer so best...

SF Surf : Cheers to Spring

Capt. Kevin DeGulis reports on 3.14.19

Last night on a hide tide LCO teammate Will roped into a 16-inch CALIFORNIA Halibut (not Pacific) at our local beach Crissy field. The past three days in San Francisco have been sunny and warm which will create more activity in the bay. If this weather keeps up, soon the water will clear to two or three feet in visibility. Hopefully, stripers from the Delta...

Lake Oroville Fly Fishing Report

Capt. Hogan Brown Fly Fishing Report

BEST FISHING RIGHT NOW is the valley reservoirs and foothill bass lakes for spotted bass. I have been out on Lake Oroville and we have been getting nice pre-spawn spotted bass in the 2-4lb range.

Not huge numbers of fish but good fish, though with a stable lake level we should see the numbers increase over the next week.

There are tons of water falls and creeks...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt Koles reports on 3.7.19

Still raining and snowing.

Mostly rain here last week. Good, melted a lot of snow. Still hard to get to the river here in the Hirsch, but better than the week before. Down about Farad, most of the snow has melted off. We still have about 4-5 feet at my house.

The gates are open on Lake Tahoe. I imagine them to stay open for the foreseeable future. Flows are about 1,500 k...

Monterey Bay Surf Fly Fishing Report

Evan Praskin reports on 3.7.19

Last weekend I had the pleasure of taking out a return client, and now good friend Lars from Denmark. I called and told him the swell looks good with ok wind in the AM, the downside is we are going to get dumped on most of the morning. He replied “sounds good! What time are we meeting?” Gotta love the spirit. We charged the Surf in hopes of some early season “special...

Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi reports on 3.7.19

Yuba

Not much of a report as we are entering our 6th week straight of fluctuating high water levels and varying degrees of turbidity. Currently, the Yuba is flowing at 17k, and Deer Creek is at 1,750 cubes. Englebright dam is still spilling and the reservoir is at 106% of capacity. The Skwala hatch was short-lived this year, but if the flows come down to at least 3,000...

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson reports on 3.7.19

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

I just spent the last two hours shoveling and blowing snow. Winter is still alive and well but could we be over the hump? The Sierra, in general, is running about 150% of normal for the season. I look forward to summer and a plentitude of water and healthy fisheries. In the meantime, with most of the Northern California rivers flooded...
