The Surf Fly Fishing Report
Jack Harrison, Fish The Rip
The stripers are in if you know where to find them, throw size 2/0-4 anchovy patterns on intermediate shooting heads as far as you can, they can be found close to shore but your likely to get skunked more than not if you cant get your fly 60 feet or more from the beach. If you want to go to the dark side a big white and red plug will get the job done. Ive been getting out there when the surf and wind will let me and Ive been lucking into some really nice fish all on flys, Ive been seeing my backing more than Id like…. We’ve got a massive southern hemisphere swell developing now and should be seeing XXL waves in chili as well as Mexico in the next week…keep you eye on the news because you might see some incredible big wave surfing. Here in Santa Cruz the waves will no doubt be way too big to fish…so I will be surfing for the next week or more until ocean goes flat, once it clams down I anticipate the bite to be good…although stripers in the surf are like winter steelhead on the swing, if your more interested in numbers than you may want to wait until November when the perch bite gets good again. If you’d like to get out in the surf please check out my website at www.fishtherip.net or email me at fishtheripguideservice@gmail.com…OR just call the shop and they can put you in touch with me and answer any questions you may have. See you on the beach! - jack
