Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report
Hogan Brown, Hogan Brown Fly Fishing
I have been spending most of my time on the Lower Sacramento outside of Chico chasing bass and shad. Shad fishing has been good with the best bite being during the afternoon and then right before the sun goes off the water. Ounce the sun is off the water the bite gets pretty tight. It is definitely not normal shad hours right at dark. I have spent most of my time fishing from the boat but flows are low around 7500cfs so there is plenty of spots to wade if you can find access. Most shad I have caught are smaller to average size males.
Largemouth bass fishing in the sloughs has been good as well for bass in the 1-5lb range. Certain sloughs are fishing better then others as at this stage it is all about finding warmer water. Most of the fishing has been top water fishing tight to weeds and structure. In the colder sloughs and back waters fishing sinking flies and lines is better.
Striper fishing has been tough with the schools of shad swimming around.

Lights out good. Seriously, get here and fish with somebody who knows the river. If you can find the time in the next few weeks, i’d get on it.
