Coastal Fly Fishing Report

Rob Russell reports on 2.28.19

Greetings from the North Bay! Fortunate for such a great water year, the year of the pig has started out well. Although steelheading has been confined to a few short windows, 2018/2019 has been a great year for the fish, with runs appearing to rebound from the drought. Excited to see what the future holds for Northern California wild steelhead.

For 2019, Rob Russell...

Coastal Steelhead Fly Fishing Report

Anthony Carruesco reports on 2.28.19

Well, that wet theme has stayed pretty persistent this winter. Most of the snowpack in the north state is up over 150% now and there is still some more precipitation to come. In the short term, this keeps us inside and off the water as much as we’d like to be but these are all great things for the coming year(s). Juvenile salmon and steelhead do very well in big...

Putah Creek Fly Fishing Report

Rob Russell reports on 2.28.19

PUTAH CREEK UPDATE 2/27
Putah is dangerously high and blown out! The torrential rain over the last 48 hours has caused Lake Berryessa to spill. The creek is dangerous at these flows and should not be approached. It is difficult to predict when Putah Creek will be fishable again. With very similar conditions in March 2017, the creek remained unfishable for most of...

Klamath River fly Fishing Report

Rick Cox reports on 2.28.19

Thanks to all who popped in to our booth at the Pleasanton Fly Fishing show last weekend. We got a chance for some great face time to promote our team of guides and the many fly fishing opportunities that we offer in the north state.

Currently, the fishing report here isn’t good with everything blown out after days of pounding rain and snow…..however the Upper Klamath...

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Another month flies by and we had a record breaker for snowfall totals in Mammoth. Apparently, our precipitation amounts for February broke a 30-year mark — and there is more on the way…..

If you are intent on fishing the Upper Owens, plan on parking out on the paved road near the bridge and walking in. There are some snowmobile tracks...

California Delta Fly Fishing Report

Steve Santucci reports on 2.28.18

Much of the Delta is muddy due to continued rain.  However, you can still catch them where you find acceptable water clarity.

I have been switching off between the Delta and San Luis Reservoir.

San Luis is still a challenge even though the water has at least 12 feet of visibility.  Hopefully, we will get two to three weeks of dry weather soon.

Foothill Bass Fly Fishing Report

Chuck Regan reports on 2.28.19

As our Cal Delta stays high and our Central Valley Rivers continue to gush with the heavy storms that have passed or are passing through, there are still some prime opportunities to find a place to tame our addiction to fly fishing. Foothill bass fishing offers great opportunities in the high water months when many other fisheries are too high, blown out or difficult...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt Koles reports on 2.28.19

Snowing again. Ha ha ha.

All you can do is just laugh and be thankful for all the precip at this point.

Big rain and snows this week again. If you have a second home up here, best make sure you get your roofs cleared, mainly the ice damns, and clear out your propane tank. Big wet snows on top of all this snow is a recipe for disaster.

Flows have come up at of Lake Tahoe....

Coastal Steelhead Fly Fishing Report

Anthony Carruesco reports on 2.15.19

We’ve had some small windows recently to get on the Winter Steelhead that are entering the rivers of Northern California and Southern Oregon. These windows haven’t been as frequent as they can be some years but we’ve been getting creative and dedicating long hours of driving to chase the favorable conditions. We had some very memorable days last week pursuing...

Putah Creek Fishing Report

Jordan Romeny reports on 2.14.19

Putah Creek Unofficial Opener March 1 st
The unofficial Putah Creek opener is just around the corner. Last spring the fishing on the creek was outright incredible. I remember having a new guide shadow me one day on the creek and he was blown away. We had two guests with us that each put 10 fish to hand and a couple of big fish mixed in there
too. I turned to him at...
