Lower Yuba & SF American

May 14, 20151 min read

Tayler Wells, Tailwalker Fly Fishing

The lower Yuba has still been finicky. Not sure the explanation, but the bug activity has slacked off a bit. There are still the standard bwo hatches that happen regularly, as well as caddis. I haven’t really had on specific fly that has been working, the fish have kept me guessing and changing flies.
The South Fork American has been fishing well despite some clarity issues from the king fire. Expect any amount of rain to add a ton of silt and ash to the water. The salmon flies and golden stones are up. Had a good session around 2200ft on Sunday, Browns and small bows rising to the big chubby foam stoneflies.

This wall had a few nice Browns on it.

As did this one, there were goldens all over this wall.

Walter lives here. I’ve known him for the past 5years. I’ve hooked him s few times. He ate my salmon fly dry and let me get him pretty close before he spat my fly. Lower flows have kept the Browns from the lakes pretty concentrated, to that note I have seen more sizable fish than ever previously
