Truckee Tahoe Fly Fishing Report

Truckee RiverSep 10, 20151 min read

Matt “Gilligan” Koles Reports on 9.9.2015

September is rolling on by. Still no rain to speak of, hot this week actually, but things look very promising this winter.

The Truckee River is still flowing. About 90 cfs here in the Hirsh. Very cool to cold overnight temps have cooled the water. Some folks are fishing, some are not. If you do fish, like I’ve been saying, fish in the mornings from the inflow of the Little Truckee River to Verdi Nevada. Stay off of everything else. Fish do look good and healthy here on the California side.

The Little Truckee is still currently to low to fish at 16 cfs for the restoration project. Flows should come back up by the end of this week. A lot of work has taken place out there. Should be a good fall out on the LT.

Pyramid Lake opens in 3 weeks, October 1st. The opener is always good at the lake. I will be doing a tech/talk at the Reno Fly Shop in Reno on Wednesday the 23rd this month. I’ll go over the rigs, and flies, and rods. Mainly how to have success at the mid early in the year. I’ll tie some Tui-Chub patterns that rock out at the lake early season. Please come by and have a brew.

Doug O and I will be having 2 clinics the fall on October 31st, and November 14th at Pyramid Lake. These are great clinics for those of you interested in learning to fish the lake.
