Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report
Bucko Theriot reports on 9.17.2015
It’s Beginning to feel a bit like fall around here. Cooler days and
nights have the fish on the move. Last week we found good numbers of
fish scattered throughout the drift from Posse grounds down to Bonnie
holding in all the usual spots. Yesterday, there seemed to be a big
shift with the biggest concentration of hungry bows found from the
boards to just below the Sundial Bridge. Small dark caddis pupa patterns
were the hot ticket (#16 Birds nest, #16 Silveys in tan and brown)
always a good idea to run a micro may in olive or black as your dropper
and we found adjusting the drop from the indicator kept us in the fish,
running as deep as 9’ to 6’. Change it up if things slow down. Remember,
even though the crowds are down and the bite is turning on, these are
“educated fish” they have seen it all so presentation is KEY. Don’t get
lazy on your drifts, drag free = grabs. Be ready, takes are subtle and
lightning quick, lots of swings and misses even among the hot sticks.
Look for conditions to just keep getting better. Epic days ahead
My open days: the 21-23rd and 28-30th
