Tahoe/Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Sep 3, 20151 min read

Matt “Gilligan” Koles reports on 9.1.2015

Nights have cooled and we are in our usual Indian Summer type Tahoe weather pattern.

Lows have been in the upper 30’s in the Truckee-Lake Tahoe basin and that has cooled the water temps on the Truckee River. Flows are still about 100 cfs here in the Hirsch. I thought it was going to be much worse going into September. Some folks have been fishing in the morning now, and I have heard a lot of small fish being caught. That is pretty typical any year this time. Lot’s of smaller fish with an occasional big one here and there. If you do fish the river, fish from the inflow of the Little Truckee to the Nevada line. There is a small stretch of water in Nevada with ethical flows to fish. That is from state line to Verdi. Any other spot on the Truckee River is to low to fish.

The Little Truckee River is still unofficially closed. The habitat/ restoration project is still going on. Flows should come up again in a few weeks. Look for a good fall out on the LT.

Pyramid Lake opens back up in one month. The opener should be awesome. Doug O and I have some clinics scheduled for October 31st, and November 14th. Come out and get coached up.
