Truckee River Fly Fishing Report
Matt Koles, Gilligan’s Guide Service
Cold and wind and snow in the Tahoe region on the Truckee River. It has been very cold the last few days. Snow is on the way today and more could be on the way next week. Since the flows have came up the river has been fishing pretty well. Flows came up below Boca last week. The added volume has spread the fish out. Flows are up and good throughout the entire river in both states.
Fish are eating march browns, blue wing olives, and skwala stones. Remember, the water is still relatively cold, it’s April. You may not find fish fish in every water type and you may not get fish to chase, (streamers) I think it’s always good to fish a little later in the day much like you would in the fall. That’s when the bugs get going, fish put themselves into feeding lanes and start chasing. Sometimes starting to early in the morning you miss that stuff. Hopefully, we can continue to get some rain and snow, every little bit helps.
