Rolling right through Winter. Good solid fishing on the Truckee River. Remember, Winter is not the time for lots of fish, but quality fish, yes.
Flows are great all over the river. 300 something here, and about 400 and change down in the desert. Really good for this time of year. The Truckee River could either be blown out around now, or very very low. About perfect...

THE COAST
The Smith River and those around it are clearing and dropping into fly fishable shape. Its time to get out there and swing one up. The coast will be busy these coming weeks but is highly worth a try.

TRINITY RIVER:
The upper river will be seeing plenty of fisherman this coming week. Most will be rewarded for their efforts. Their seems to be a decent amount of fish around and the last storm has likely brought more on the way.

The Klamath remains one of the safest bets for good fishing. Boats are getting their expected numbers and a few larger size steelhead are showing up. The tributaries swelled last week and many of the holding fish shot up to spawn. New fish are still pushing up river and February is the month we see the biggest. The Iron Gate Float to I-5 is the most viable section to...

Lower Yuba River Update
The past week has seen some gnarly weather here in Northern California. Big wind, heavy rain, and as of Monday morning low elevations snowfall like here in Nevada City. Before our last round of storms, the Lower Yuba River was fishing well with consistent mayfly hatches from noon until 3pm, and the start of seeing Skwala stoneflies drifting...

Not a lot here in the Hirsch, but tons up top. I think we’re just above average on snowpack now. Average is a lot in Tahoe.
The Truckee River didn’t get that high here, but blew out down in Nevada. It dropped fast after the rain turned to snow. More precip today, rain here, snow up top. Same deal. Kinda funny how everyone blew this winter off...

This morning the Lower Yuba is flowing at just over 2,300cfs but it was double this over this past weekend. Our hope is that the rain will push some more healthy fish up the system to join what has been some of the nicer pods of fish we’ve seen over the past few years.
Before this past weekend we’ve had some phenomenal dry fly fishing. Small EC...

Foothill Lakes for Spotted Bass:The recent rain has been filling our reservoirs which means it’s a perfect time to be out chasing spotted bass. Fishing has been fair to great as far as numbers go with a shot at a magnum here and there. Our float-n-fly method has been the hot ticket but have been getting them on slow and low deepwater sinkline tactics.
Our...

Winter swells! This winter has been excellent for perch fishing if you can find a window in between the surging swells. The benefit of all this energy is it creates some great contour on the beach giving those perch some good grounds to hold in.
The days are hit or miss so if you find yourself struggling out there during these heavy conditions be sure to keep moving...
