Pyramid Lake Fly Fishing Report

Because of the high pressure ridge that settle down over the area this week at Pyramid, the fishing has slowed down a bit. This along with low or no winds and clear skies produced some tough conditions. However, even with these conditions, anglers were able to scratch out some nice fish. The afternoon grab has been best. This Thanksgiving weekend things should be better with a low pressure system that is in the forecast to reach the area. These winter storm systems usually gets it going.

The fishing this week at Pyramid Lake was outstanding! I know of 4 fish released in the 20 pound class. Kevin Van Ry of Reno released a 20 pounda that took a #8 original popcorn beetle. Jose Luna from Carson City released a 35 ½ in GIANT! See pictures on my “BLOG page” http://www.calvadaflyfishing.com/?page_id=30 Resident angler Rich Moomaw also released a monsta! Bruce Smith, Corky Yokoe, Frank Murata, and bunch of their friends from the Orange County area were here and had a great week!
A new storm system is coming through the area this week. Now is a great time to fish! Almost all beaches have been producing. All techniques have been good, “Floater no Cator”, indicators, and shooting heads, take your pick. Ladders or no ladders fish the style you like. Most fly patterns are working, some Monstas were caught this week on the original popcorn beetle. Tui chub patterns, tiger midges, 49ers, black/purple buggers, and black/red leeches have all produced some very fine fish.
Water temperatures are perfect at about 54 degrees!
