Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Dec 4, 20141 min read

Hogan Brown, Hogan Brown Fly Fishing

Lower Yuba River 716cfs, Deer Creek went up to about 75cfs but has dropped down to 17cf clarity is fine. The stretch above the bridge opened Dec 1 first and as most years fishing as silly…usually when trout have not been fished over for 2 months they are pretty easy to catch. I would expect them to wise up pretty quick but there are still good numbers of salmon reds and fish are up in the me chowing on smolt and eggs. I am hoping the rains will add a bit of color to the river and my next few trips I will be able to get clients out and swing some flies. I would also look for the Baetis hatches to start and as fish move off the reds and move into the flats look for heads coming up midday. December and January are some of my favorite months on the Lower Yuba as one can nymph, fish dries, or swing flies on switch rods…lots of options
