With the recent storms- water clarity & temperature are the key, if looking at situation with turbid water- look to try UV treated flies or bigger patterns. Though not big weather events you still need to be careful with approaches to water and the conditions you’re in.

With the recent rains that have brought some much needed relief to our
fire situations, and a bit more flow to our rivers as well as a dusting
of snow. Let El Nino come! I would again suggest going to the Stanislaus
river. It is fishing well and has a lot to offer with Sonora and Twain
Harte near by. The Tuolumne is also doing quite well.
High Elevation is doing well.
In Yosemite it’s really low, not good.
Lower river is closed till Jan 1st.

The “Rough Fire” in King’s Canyon is
still causing lots of lingering smoke throughout the whole area, and
with the low water in that section if you’re in the Southern part of
Yosemite, drive to elevations above 7000 feet.

causing lots of lingering smoke throughout the Sierra National Forest
and with the low water in that section if you’re in the Southern part of
Yosemite, drive to elevations above 7000 feet. The “plague” is not a
problem, wear long pants, long sleeves and repellant, you’ll be fine.

Our Thunder showers activity has
ended and now we are looking at lower water levels and flows which lead
to higher temperatures. Also check teh Dept of Fish & Game for river
closures before you leave. If you’re going to fish in a lower elevation
fishery for trout, start super early, be done by noon or when the temperature of the water reaches 68 degrees.

of water have come down, closing Hwy 140, and mucking up all the
rivers. So this report is a good thing for California and fish, but it
makes fishing hard for us.
