CA Delta Fly Fishing Report

Captain Bryce Tedford Reports on Septmeber 18th, 2025

Fall fishing is just starting to roll as water temperatures have been hovering above 70 degrees. With nearly 100 degree days, it’s been a mix of topwater largemouth & a transition into the Fall striper game on the Delta. That said, Fall is just around the corner & the cooler weather coming in will turn my attention towards stripers over the coming weeks. Fall should be a great time on the Delta with fish moving into the system to heavily forage on baitfish, crawfish, bluegill, pike minnow, baby bass, etc.

We will be using 8-9wt rods, heavy sinking lines, 20-25lb leaders & large Clousers to weed out quality fish. 3/0 Steve Adachi style Rattle Clousers are tough to beat when hunting stripers. Various colors work but aquamarine &/or surf brown are tough to beat as well!

Fall season is a wonderful time on the Delta & should not be missed by the striper enthusiast or anyone interested in the adventure of chasing stripers on a fly. My Fall season is all booked up but I have a few remaining dates in Dec. for the persistent angler. I am currently finding solid numbers of 5-15# stripers & it should only improve throughout the Fall!
