Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt Koles Reports on 2.15.2018

From warm to bitter cold today on the Truckee River.

We actually had a dusting of snow fall last night. Very cold temps today and a warm up towards the weekend.

Not much change to report other than the weather. Pretty warm daytime highs for the last few weeks and now one of the coldest days of the year. Flows have remained about the same all month.

350 cubes here in the...

Tahoe Area Fly Fishing Report

Matt “Gilligan” Koles Reports on 9.23.2015

It is fall in the Tahoe basin. This means cold nights and warm days, or the typical “Indian Summer” weather pattern that we seem to experience every year. Several river clean-ups have taken place which I love to see. A big thank you to all those that pitched in. The Truckee River right now as I write this is on the cusp of what most would consider to be...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt Koles, Gilligan’s Guide Service

Looks like the May monsoons have ended. We had rain in and around Truckee for the last 10 days. Heavy, heavy rain at times adding a lot of water to our area and yes, the Truckee River did get high and muddy the other evening and still has some tint to it.

TMWA was going to use their drought reserves the first week of June, but now looks like it will be pushed...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Can you believe it has snowed more the last month than pretty much all year? Anything helps, but it ain’t gonna do much.

Flows are about 280 here in the Hirsch, higher down towards state line, and getting way low through Reno. It’s way low up along Glenshire and above that way too. Flows seem like all I’ve been talking about lately, low flows. Hopefully next...

Flows are up a bit since last report, about 320 cfs here in the Hirsch, a just barely floatable flow, and something I have been taking advantage of while it lasts.

Typically this time of year with this warm weather the river would be just about un-fishable, high and muddy from snowmelt, not so this year, or the last, but it is what it is and that’s the...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

A little rain and snow around the Tahoe area on the Truckee River. Some much needed water getting added into the river this week.

About 280 cfs around Hirschdale, not bad, little higher down towards state line, and low through Reno.

We’re still hanging on up here…

For now, fish while you can. No one knows for sure exactly how long the flows in the Truckee River...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Flows have been cut in half on the Truckee River coming out of Boca. Thank God, because there was no way with Boca being as low as it is that we would have any water left come this sumer. We probably still won’t anyway, have any water left later this summer, but at least the river may have some water in it for a while.

That being said the river is fishing...

I guess it’s spring here on out. Summer will come early this year. Get your fishing in on the Truckee River now until July.

I do not know when the flows will go down on the Truckee this year, but they are dumping a lot of water out of Boca right now.

Right now the fishing is superb for early April. Fish are spread out and you can just about find them in any...

Cold and wind and snow in the Tahoe region on the Truckee River. It has been very cold the last few days. Snow is on the way today and more could be on the way next week. Since the flows have came up the river has been fishing pretty well. Flows came up below Boca last week. The added volume has spread the fish out. Flows are up and good throughout the entire...

Pyramid Lake Fly Fishing Report

Pyramid Lake right now can be a numbers game if you hit it right. Pyramid strain cutts are cruising the beaches looking for mates, spawning time you know. It still can be tough if you have no wind and direct sun, kinda what we’ve been having. You’re looking for some chop and or cloud cover. I’m not for getting there at 5 a.m., but if you do great, if not stay for the afternoon bite, more my style...
