Yosemite Fly Fishing Report

Rick Mazaira Reports on 7.14.2016

Things are Fishing well on the West Slope of the Sierra!

This week I am glad to say that the west slope is fishing well. Middle Fork of the Stan is looking great above Twain Hart- look at Herring Creek and the inlet to Lyons!

Mokelumne- The river has more of a bass/ striper presence as you go away from the Dam. The heat will wear at you but a good early drift.

Things are trending well on the West Slope of the Sierra!

There are some great opportunities to fish in the Sierra National Forest & Kings as well. In Kings Canyon / Sequoia you have all the Marble fork looking great for dry fly action.

After 4 years of minimal run off… this year feels huge! Tioga pass opened up again so access to the east side through the park is fully open. The traffic in the valley is really rough due to the bus lanes that no longer allow cars in the rt lane of traffic. That being said most “South facing” tributaries are fish-able, fish the edges, and check flows and weather...

Welcome back run off!!! Tioga pass opened up so access to the park is fully open. Be aware that traffic in the valley is really rough due to the bus lanes that no longer allow cars in the rt lane of traffic. That being said most “South facing” tributaries are fish-able, fish the edges, and check flows and weather before you come.

Mokelumne- Closed till end of May.

Rick Mazaira reports on 5.5.2016

Opening Day was a great time for us to fish and remarkably it looks like an average snow year with run off being what you deal with… and I’m so glad to have those issues again. Las week, my suggestion would be to look at south facing creeks is still what I choose to do. One gem I’ll give away is Rock Creek below Mammoth Pool, below Rock Creek Campground in the...

Opening Day has us really excited about getting back to some of our favorite spots. My suggestion would be to look at south facing creeks and systems. One gem I’ll give away is Rock Creek below Mammoth Pool, below Rock Creek Campground in the Sierra National Forest.

Storms are here and with that the best bet is to check for current river flows! We still need more water but how good a sight to see water flowing over Yosemite Falls and flowers in full bloom in the foothills. Get out while we can still see this beauty!
