California Delta Fly Fishing Report

Bryce Tedford reports on 5.10.18

Delta

The warm weather has brought a fair amount of windy days & the challenge is to find areas out of the wind with feeding fish. Some days have fished pretty well but others we are working very hard for the fish’s we are finding.

With water temperatures approaching 70 degrees in certain areas the Largemouth are getting aggressive & are a fun surprise to offset...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Capt. Hogan Brown reports on 5.10.18

Lower Sac Shad Fishing - Been out guiding the Lower Sac for shad this last week and the shad have definitely shown up but are by no means in every run. Some run the bit will be wide open starting about 5pm others will be devoid of fish or provide inconsistent action. Flows out of Ord Bend are around 6200cfs which creates some wade fishing options throughout the...

Striper fishing is still good should continue thru May.  Also Largemouth Bass are becoming accessible for the fly fisherman.

Deschutes River Fly Fishing Report

Cory Godell reports on 5.10.18

Deschutes River

The amazingly nice weather we’ve been having has made for some nice days on the water, but the fishing of late has definitely been up and down due to the lack of bugs. But now the game is changing.

The salmon flies are finally making their annual guest appearance which should get the trout ready to chow everything in sight. So if you like enjoy fishing...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt Koles reports on 5.10.18

Good weather, good fish’n here on the Truckee River.

Gotta love spring. Great weather, plenty of fat healthy fish, and the Giants are playing good baseball, couldn’t get any better. Plenty of water in the river too.

I’ve still been floating down on the Nevada side, streamer fishing mainly in the Nature Conservancy section. Slow streamer fishing, but still getting or...

San Francisco Bay Fly Fishing Report

Kevin DeGulis reports on 5.3.18

What a difference a week makes! The bay is hot and heavy right now, so get after it.

Saturday we hosted our second Fly Fishing the Surf Clinic, it was a home run. We had 8 participants join us for the day: Martin, a long time fly angler and part of the Golden Gate Casting Club, has always dreamed of catching a California halibut on the fly. Over the past couple...

Upper Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Brandon Worthington reports on 5.3.18

Upper Sac

For several weeks the fishing has been good to great with most wild Rainbows in the teens and we have even seen a few fish dry fly fishing with March Browns and small Mayflies (Tibialis). Flowsare low and crystal clear for this time of year, making it very wadeable and fishable, but stealthy approaches and presentations are essential for success. This...

Rogue River Fly Fishing Report

Brandon Worthington reports on 5.3.18

Rogue River

The Rogue River features a phenomenal Golden Stone and Salmonfly hatch which sees little attention but only because it’s simply overshadowed by the arrival of Spring Chinook. We relish this inattention because it affords fly fishermen in the know non-stop dry fly fishing to eager trout on a beautiful river in early summer. What could be better?

Fish...

Oregon Klamath Fly Fishing Report

Brandon Worthington reports on 5.3.18

Oregon Klamath

Some have only heard rumors of the fantastic fishing for healthy redband rainbows in the heart of a beautiful and rugged corner of Southern Oregon. A tailwater, Oregon’s Klamath River drains one of the most productive trout lakes on the planet, Klamath Lake. Consequently, it supports prolific insect activity, numerous baitfish species and robust...

California Klamath Fly Fishing Report

Brandon Worthington reports on 5.3.18

Cal Klamath

We have been swinging flies on the Klamath recently with good success as we look forward to some dry fly action in the coming months. We rarely see other anglers this time of year and enjoy the sound of running water, birds chirping and the quiet solitude. In spring, the fish are typically a mixture of small adult, half-pounder and juvenile...
