Rogue River Fly Fishing Report

John Rickard reports on 5.10.18

Rogue River

Like the Klamath, the Rogue is all about the big bug. Far more popular of a Salmonfly hatch is the “Holy Water” on the Rogue. Ample walk n’ wade spots are available, but many anglers take a seasonal pilgrimage to these waters and it is likely you’ll see fellow fisherman in your favorite spots.

The drift boat can offer a great way to float the upper...

Klamath River Fly Fishing Report

John Rickard reports on 5.10.18

Klamath River / Below Iron Gate.

The Iron Gate float is providing some good fishing under the Jaydecator. Fish are being caught all day, the best is between 9 and 12 and again from 4 to dark. There are a few places to enjoy a walk n wade but, by far your best success will come from a drift boat. Big rubber legs and birds nest have been the ticket.

We are days away...

McCloud River Fly Fishing Report

John Rickard reports on 5.10.18

McCloud River

Most of our guide days have been on this magical river. It has seen a mix of weather and is in fantastic shape.

The best and most fun fishing has been with the dry fly, however, we have seen success on every technique. Major players are the PMD’s Yellow Sallies and Golden Stones. The fish have been healthy and consistent in the 10-14 inch range. That...

Upper Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

John Rickard reports on 5.10.18

Upper Sacramento River

The Upper Sac has been consistently good the last few weeks. It is a safe bet that no matter how you like to fish, you will find some success along this 38-mile river.

The upper sections Spring is still emerging and the hatches and best fishing are in the afternoon. Focussing on mayflies and smaller stones will provide good fishing on the upper...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

John Rickard reports on 5.10.18

Lower Sacramento River

Spring on the Lower Sacramento River is about as good as trout fishing can get. The river has had a plethora of bug activity with most emphasis on Hydropsyche Caddis and PMD Mayflies.

At about 8K the river is in perfect drift boating shape. Classic side drifting methods with Jaydecators are your best bet but it would be silly not to have a dry...

Shasta Lake Fly Fishing Report

Aaron Grabiel reports on 5.10.18

Shasta Lake

It’s a great time of year to get out and fish on the lake for Spotted Bass. Shasta Lake is fishing size 10 Woolly Buggers and Crawdad imitations. The Spotted Bass can be found from shore out to 25 ft.

Intermediate sinking line has been working the best. 3-4x Tippet has been working well. The Bass are averaging 11-18 inches. HarvestWild operates under a...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Lower Sacramento

The Lower Sacramento continues to fish extremely well. This year-round fishery never ceases to amaze me. I have been focusing on two different floats. One being from Park Marina to Anderson River Park where I have been fishing a 5-7ft leader and using a Cinnamon Foxes Poopah and Birds Nest, Ink Thing, and Mercers Epoxy Back PMD. I have been fishing...

Upper Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Aaron Grabiel reports on 5.10.18

Upper Sacramento

This is a fun and beautiful raft trip. I have been fishing from the Cantera Loop area to the Delta Road/Dog Creek exit. The fish have been eating a size 8 Brown Rubber Leg, size 14 Amber Wing Prince, size 16-18 Pheasant Tail and size 18 Dark Lords. As for dry flies, we have been getting fish to go for big salmon fly patterns, however, they have not... Continue reading

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson reports on 5.10.18

I am loving the weather now. We are a ways away from wet wading temperatures but those days are coming soon. It is nice not having to fish with a thick jacket and layers of clothing. With the spring runoff about to kick in, some of the creeks and rivers will be experiencing high, cold flows from the melting snowpack high above. In a nutshell, some of the watersheds...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Anthony Carruesco reports on 5.10.18

The Lower Sacramento River is fishing good to great at the moment. There was a big 30 boat “tournament” on the river last weekend so all of that pressure might have made the fish a bit shy the past two days.

That being said fishing has stayed very good, you just gotta scrub all the little nooks and crannies. Flows are just up over 8K cubes. The increased flows...
