Delta Striper fishing has been set on hold. The wind has been blowing for the last two weeks. We are looking for and expecting a weather change. Largemouth Bass fishing has improved with the warmer water temps. Smallmouth fishing should heat up in June.
Chuck Ragan here. Spring fishing is in full swing and if you’re having a hard time figuring out which fishery to hit, it’s for good reason. The river are full of Striper and Shad have shown up. The foothill, as well as valley lakes, have been churning out some excellent bass and even the Yuba River is offering some great opportunities.
PLEASE BEWARE of...
Continue readingFishing is really really good on the Truckee River.
I don’t say that too often, but it’s really darn good right now. Flows are still somewhat high, but there’s lots of hungry healthy fish willing to take a fly.
The Truckee River is not usually a numbers river, but if you’re nymphing you can rack up some numbers right now. Late spring and early summer is a good time for...

Wind, wind, wind! Warmer weather & Springtime has brought windy days, the challenge is to find areas out of the direct wind with feeding fish. With the windy days, I have been focusing on fishing the mornings before the wind gets unmanageable.
Still catching some decent Stripers but Spring Striper season is winding down. With water temperatures approaching 70...

We had quite the week of fishing here on the central coast! The Stripers have made their claim down in the Monterey Bay region and are eager to eat! Over the weekend the mornings were...

The Lower Sac continues to be the consistent powerhouse that she is. Late morning hatches of PMDs and Caddis have been gettin’ the fish eating. Don’t panic if you haven’t hooked a bunch of fish before lunch. When the bugs have started to come off later in the morning and in the early afternoon, the fish have been pretty damn grabby.
Flows on their way...

Spring fishing in the North State is firing on all cylinders right now. The weather is beautiful, the bugs are hatching and the fish are chowing.
The Upper Sac has had some good windows of fishing throughout the day. From Dunsmuir down to Gibson area, there have been a lot of different bugs around in the mix. Goldens are moving about, Salmonflies,...

‘Tis the season for spawning cutthroats coming out of Crowley Lake. Please do not cast to fish that are sitting on redds. Also, if you need to cross the river, look for those lighter colored areas in the gravel beds and avoid them. These are their redds and are loaded with thousands of cutthroat eggs. Although it is really tempting to fish for large, colored up trout...

Early in the mornings and at the last hours of the day you can find some sensational Bass and Panfish fishing in our area’s lakes and ponds. Poppers, Mice, Crawfish and Minnow patterns have been great.
Nothing like catching a big bluegill brings me back to my angling beginnings. However nostalgic, these fish and the pursuit of them would excite any...
