Fishing Report

Yuba River & American River

5/25/2017

Flows are pumping at 7k for the yuba and 9k for the American, but the shad are in. Reports of big females and small males in the river.  I heard early this week 2 guys caught  50 shad in a half day on the yuba and folks getting em on the American in double digits.

Upper Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Brian “Bucko” Theriot Reports on 5.25.2017

The Upper Sac flows are at 2100 Cfs and flowing clear and big. The river is tough to navigate at these flows so bring a wading staff, but if you can find where the fish are holding, the fishing can be good! Salmon flys and golden stones have been flying around and I have been throwing rubber legs, prince nymphs, copper John’s, and small mayfly patterns. If...

McCloud and Upper Sac Report

Ted Fay Fly Shop Reports on 5.24.2017

Memorial Day weekend rapidly approaching and some of you are angsting about the river conditions. The McCloud dropped into very fishy shape this week but the hot weather returned and the high elevation melt kicked in. I of course took advantage of the window with satisfying results. The river is presently at 325cfs, a bit high from normal summer flows of...

Eastern Sierra Fishing Report

Jim Stimson reports on 5.25.2017

We have runoff…. after several days of warm weather, everything is running high and wild. All of the weather services are sending out flood warnings. The next couple of weeks will be interesting. Keep in mind there is over 50 feet of snow reported at the ski area, 90 feet has been measured in some of the cirques!

The fishing in general has picked up with the arrival...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt “Gilligan” Koles Reports on 5.25.2017

Big flows still on the Truckee River.

We’re right around 3,800-4000 k every day here in the Hirsch. Better than 5,500 k, which it was just recently. 4,000 k opens up a little more water, but not much. Clarity is good and all, but the water is still very high. The river really hasn’t come up with the warm weather.

We’ve been catching fish. In fact some days...

Lower Sac Striper & Shad Report

Hogan Brown Reports on 5.25.2017

Lower Sac Striper Fishing is fair to good. There are still good numbers of migratory stripers in the river from Colusa to Chico. The resident stripers are starting to feed but most big fish are chasing the shad that are in the river in fair numbers. River Clarity is 2+’ and water temps are 60-65. Striper fishing should continue to improve over the next few weeks and...

Delta Fly Fishing Report

Steve Santucci Reports on 5.25.2017

Really good for Delta Largemouth Bass.  Had some great topwater Largemouth Bass action today with nice fish from 2 to 4lbs.  Stripers are coming and going so we will have fish until the end of June.  Water temps are still OK for Stripers.

San Luis is fishing well with good action for Stripers to 10 lbs. There is always a chance for a really big fish. The Lower...

McCloud & Upper Sac Fly Fishing Report

Wild Waters Fly Fishing reports on 5.18.17

The rivers running off Mt. Shasta are all starting to come into play for the season.  We do expect the upcoming, hot weather to bump some flows up due to snow melt, mostly on the Upper Sac and its feeder creeks.  We have been fishing from the raft and from shore.  Hatches of stoneflies and mayflies become more prolific everyday spring approaches.

McC...

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson reports on 5.18.17

Not a heck of a lot has changed on this side of California. We had a weather system pass through the area that dropped several inches of snow on the ground which will add to the spring runoff when the temperatures start climbing upwards again. The fishing in general has picked up with the arrival of the cutthroat in the Long Valley Caldera. A word of caution though,...

Delta Fly Fishing Report

Bryce Tedford reports on 5.16.17

The weather has been sunny & 70’s for the most part but winds throughout the week have been presenting a challenge. The striper bite has been good some days & tough on others. In other words, some days I feel like a hero out there & other days a zero! With the full moon & water temperatures hovering around 65+ degrees this past week the stripers were likely focused...
