Delta Fly Fishing Report

Bryce Tedford reports on 5.16.17

The weather has been sunny & 70’s for the most part but winds throughout the week have been presenting a challenge. The striper bite has been good some days & tough on others. In other words, some days I feel like a hero out there & other days a zero! With the full moon & water temperatures hovering around 65+ degrees this past week the stripers were likely focused on spawning if they had not already done so. After this week they will scatter & it’s anyone’s guess where to find them but they should be back at it & on the bite!

With water temperatures going above 65 degrees & the Costa Bass-N-Fly this coming week, many of us will be turning our attention to largemouth. These bass are also in spawn mode, some in pre spawn, some in post spawn. As water temperatures increase, primarily evening right now, topwater frog patterns in the shallows are a blast. If unwilling to hit topwater, various streamers & clouser type patterns on floating, intermediate & heavy sink lines can do the trick!

It’s a fun time a year with opportunities to chase stripers & topwater largemouth in the coming months!
