McCloud River Fly Fishing Report

Wild Waters Fly Fishing Reports on 8.4.2017

With air temps breaking 100 degrees nearly every day, I can find no other salvation than wet wading the cold waters of the McCloud. These dog days of summer can be tough fishing but if you know a few tricks you can do really really well. The most productive being dry fly and dropper in the pocket water. Most of the pockets have fish and most of the fish...

Yosemite Fly Fishing Report

Rick Mazaira Reports on 8.4.2017

The fire is contained but still smokey please watch out for emergency equipment. Though in the scheme of things this is just a fishing report, the opportunity to share with you the need is here. These small communities in the foothills used to be proud to provide lumber and resources that built this state. As economies have shifted these communities have had to...

Deschutes & Owyhee River Fly Fishing Report

Cory Godell Reports on 8.4.2017

Deschutes River

If you are a trout fisherman, this is a good time to be on the Deschutes. Minus the occasional rafter floating by you will have the majority of the upper 50 miles of the river to yourself. Most days we are still getting caddis hatches, which should continue through most of August.

Steelhead season is now here! If you’ve got the steelhead bug,...

Delta Fly Fishing Report

Steve Santucci Reports on 8.4.2017

Delta Stripers are starting to show up.  Largemouth Bassin is fun if you try for them early or late in the day.  Smallmouth Bass are plentiful in the North Delta. It’s that time of year when you should at least plan a couple of day’s to enjoy our very near resource.  As you know it’s vast and spectacular.

Also San Luis Reservoir, San Francisco Bay, and the Napa...

Rogue River Fly Fishing Report

Jim Andras Reports on 8/4/17

Finally back on the Rogue after what feels like too long. Fished a number of days over the past two weeks and have found steelhead on every trip. I would not go as far to say that there are lots of fish around but bright, wild steelhead are always worth the effort. Did not include any photos as we’ve been under a heat wave and I made a point to keep the fish wet. The...

Lower Sac Fly Fishing Report

AC Fly Fishing Reports on 8/4/17

image

This shouldn’t be news to anyone who pays attention to fishing reports - but the Lower Sacramento River continues to kick us consistently good fishing with or without the boat traffic. The “top” just reopened to fishing. The circus came and went. A lot of folks that don’t spend much time on the river were disappointed and were griping about how slow it was.. I guess...

Lower Sacramento Striper Report

Hogan Brown Reports on 8/4/2017

Lower Sac Striper Fishing has been good. Plenty of schoolie and shaker fish with the true trophies eating on most days. There have been good numbers of 3-8lb fish and a few 10+ but the true trophies, 20+lbs have been out most days. Water temps have come up a bit with the heat but if you are going to be outside the river is the coolest place in town. Most days we are...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal Reports on 8.4.2017

The Lower Sacramento top section “re-opener” was quite the circus August 1st. I’ve never seen so many drift boats on one river.

August 2nd was noticeably less crowded and today (the 3rd) there are even less boats out here now.

Fishing has been great and more enjoyable without the parade.

Even though the fish saw a bit of a break, (it was only closed for 2 months this...

Hat Creek, Pit River Report

7/27/2017

Hot, Hot, Hot! With temps in the high 90′s to 100′s fish will be relaxing in the middle of the day… as should you! It’s all about the morning and evening. If you are a die hard to fish in the middle of the day find white water, shade and deep pools.

You should be fishing caddis, Pmds, small soft hackles, ants, grasshoppers, and LBS (little black shit)

McCloud, Upper Sac Report

7.27.2017

Fishing on the Upper Sac and McCloud are in very similar places. Hot weather and full sun will make fishing difficult. In the Middle of the day get your flies down. Fish a range of PMD’s, Caddis, Yellow Sallies and LBS (little black shit). Hunt for shade, deeper pools, and white water. Cover a lot of water and you will be rewarded.

The water on the upper sac is clear so fish longer and...
