Delta Fly Fishing Report

Steve Santucci reports on 8.10.17

Delta Largemouth and Smallmouth bass fishing is rated good to excellent.   Smallmouth fishing means good numbers of blowups and just great action. The largemouth fishing can be rewarding but takes more skill with fewer bites. It’s really not a negative but the reality of the challenge.
The Delta also provides action for crappie and bluegill. Smallmouth and pan...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Hogan Brown reports on 8.10.17

image

Lower Sac Striper Fishing remains good. The Weather has cooled down and the full moon has passed so fishing is stabilizing. We are still getting good numbers of 3-5lbs fish with 10+ and trophies in the mix. The daily bag has a been representative of a true pyramid with smaller younger fish making up the base and the trophy fish on the top. Fishing should remain good...

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson reports on 8.10.17

Do you like fishing with hoppers? Who doesn’t like hurling out large dry flies, plopping them onto the water’s surface with not a care in the world for delicate presentations, and then actually being able to see the fly bobbing high along the river’s edge? And the grabs?! Hang on! There is no sippy-slurpy subtleties…. there is chaos as the water explodes when Mr.Trout...

Putah Creek Fly Fishing Report

Richard Loft Reports on 8.4.2017

Hi everyone I just wanted to do a short report for this Friday morning. When I got on the water today I really took my time making sure to wade in quietly not bumping any rocks with my boots and just very quietly making a few short drifts with just a minimal amount of weight . I want to emphasize being quiet. Also I have begun to notice that my balance while wading...

Upper Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

8.4.2017

The Upper Sacramento River is fishing very well. Focus on tight line nymphing techniques (USE SSG weights 1.6 grams)  in the morning and afternoon. Fish all the little pockets and you will find fish. Small stones, caddis and mayfly patterns were all on the lunch ticket.

Cover a lot of water and you will catch a lot of fish. We fished just downstream of Mosbrea Falls and up river. The Dry...

Local Surf Fishing Report

Surf Fishing Report 8.4.2017

Surf fishing has been good for perch, Stripers, and Halibut. The key is to go and go often. Conditions play a big roll so look for low winds and surf. Surf fishing is all about being at the right place at the right time.

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson Reports on 8.4.2017

Tioga and Sonora Passes are open, AND, the road down to Devils’s Postpone and the San Joaquin River is open. I fished down there on Monday to scout for a guide trip. A lot of the water is high and fast but if you explore around you can find some softer water and grabby fish. It is a magical place to wander around and explore.

Hot Creek

The creek is flowing through the...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt “Gilligan” Koles Reports on 8.4.2017

Hot is the word here in Tahoe/Truckee/Reno on the Truckee River.

Nice in the mornings, hot as hell in the afternoons. They will set a record for consecutive days over 90 in Reno this summer. Thankfully, we have water in the river this summer or they’d been nuked already.

I have done a little guiding in NV-Reno, on the Truckee River. The future looks bright...

North Fork of the Yuba Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi Reports on 8.4.2017

image

The North Fork Yuba River is firing on all cylinders right now and conditions are perfect. I’ve been focusing my trips in the upper watershed where there are numerous cold subterranean springs entering the river pumping in 42 to 46 degree crystal clear water. Water temperatures in the main stem river are 56 in the morning rising to 63 in the afternoon, the water...
