Deschutes & Owyhee River Fly Fishing Report

Deschutes River

If you are a trout fisherman, this is a good time to be on the Deschutes. Minus the occasional rafter floating by you will have the majority of the upper 50 miles of the river to yourself. Most days we are still getting caddis hatches, which should continue through most of August.

Steelhead season is now here! If you’ve got the steelhead bug, it’s time to dig out your spey rods and head for the Deschutes. The bulk of the steelhead are still on their way.  However, some have already been caught off and on for the past couple of weeks.  You will wan’t to focus your efforts on the lower stretches of the Deschutes. As soon as the nights start cooling down the water temps will start dropping and it will drag more steelhead out of the Columbia River into the Deschutes.

Owyhee

The PMD hatch is still coming off in the afternoons and some days will carry on into the evening. The hatches seem to be coming off stronger the further you are up river.
