Yosemite Fly Fishing Report
Rick Malaria Reports on 4.28.2016
Opening Day has us really excited about getting back to some of our favorite spots. My suggestion would be to look at south facing creeks and systems. One gem I’ll give away is Rock Creek below Mammoth Pool, below Rock Creek Campground in the Sierra National Forest.
Mokelumne- Closed till end of May.
Stanislaus- Spring pulses are increasing flows again flows up to 3200 to 1200 CFS on Sundays and lessening by Thursday. Best to go high above the run off just below snow line.
Tuolumne- Run off is the issue the middle section tributaries like the South fork are a good choice for the spring. Subsurface caddis & midges work well.
Basin Creek is still looking great with Dry flies on the surface.
Merced- Open and with a recent release of rescue rainbow trout it is looking better. Lots of Pike Minnows, Suckers, and when you catch a rainbow with a tracking tag on it know it is a rescue fish and keep it in the water.Below Yosemite has very high flows, fishing the edges are possible but there are better options.
