Yosemite Fly Fishing

YosemiteJun 23, 20161 min read

Rick of Yosemite Outfitters reports on 6.23.2016

Things are trending well on the West Slope of the Sierra!

There are some great opportunities to fish in the Sierra National Forest & Kings as well. In Kings Canyon / Sequoia you have all the Marble fork looking great for dry fly action.

Mokelumne

The river has more of a bass/ striper presence as you go away from the Dam

Stanislaus

Rafters are in full swing so watch flows. South Fork is doing great. Yellow Sallies, and Hare’s ears. The Hwy 4 corridor is improving.
Tuolumne- Run off is the issue the middle section tributaries like the South fork are doing well. Subsurface caddis & midges work well. Especially just right out of the National Park boundary. The meadows are still a little high.

Merced

El Portal is doing good, still a bit high but it is fishing.. just watch flows and temps. Look to the S. Fork as a good southern spring tributary to fish. Lower Merced lots of Pike Minnows, Suckers, and when you catch a rainbow with a tracking tag on it know it is a rescue fish and keep it in the water.
