Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal reports on 6.6.18

Lower Sac

Lower Sac is still fishing really well. I’ll continue to fish this river several days a week all summer long. I’ve been floating mostly the lower portions below Anderson lately. The fish are smaller but what they may lack in size they more than make up for in strength and aggressiveness. The lower floats are a lot more scenic and a lot less crowded. Caddis and...

Pit River Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal reports on 6.6.18

Pit

Pit River at #3 is in great shape… the water seems a tad high… but that may be that I’m getting older. Having a wading staff is just as important as bringing plenty of split shots.

Without either, you will not catch many fish. That said… the dry fly fishing in the late evening time could be very good this time of year. Didn’t see prolific hatches of bugs, however,...

McCloud River Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal reports on 6.6.18

McCloud

The McCloud is in great shape. The water is pretty clear with just a tinge of that classic glacial tint in the water. We fished it hard the other day down in the Preserve water and found nooks and crannies that were stuffed with good to average sized rainbows.

These fish rip and my clients seemed pretty stoked with lots of hoots. Most of the fishiest buckets and...

Fall River Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal reports on 6.6.18

NorCal

We have been experiencing fantastic fly fishing weather in Northern California
these last few weeks… lots of warm, sunny days followed by a few cloudy
afternoons with thundershowers in the high country above Redding. No century
busting hot spells just yet in early June. Time to get after it!!!
I cannot remember a better spring season than the one we are experiencing...

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson reports on 6.6.18

Sierra Nevada

There is a mixed bag of fishing conditions now. The weather has stabilized and we are having warm, summer-like conditions. I have been wet wading with pants (mosquitos) on the Upper Owens. The initial step into the river always comes with a gasp and pucker as the chilly water hits your skin but in general this is only shallow wading. The warm temperatures...

California Delta Fly Fishing Report

Steve Santucci reports on 6.6.18

Delta

Striper fishing is surprisingly good. The hardest part is finding a low wind day. Had one of the best days of the year this week with many fish in the three to five-pound class. You always have a chance of hooking an exceptional sized Striper. Largemouth Bass top water continues to be good. It seems good Striper Fishing stretches from Colusa to the Delta and...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Lower Sac

**Broken Record. Great fishing right now on the Sac.. Warmer weather is getting the Caddis moving.. these trout can get pretty reckless when the Caddis and hatching.

The grabs are “agro” and you can usually find fish in some tight, skinny spots. All signs are pointing to us having an excellent summer season out on the big river.

Pit River Fly Fishing Report

Anthony Carruesco reports on 6.6.17

Pit

Pit has been FANTASTIC recently. Fish have been chowing subsurface. A lot of action for the angler that can wade a bit and cover the water here.

I don’t think there is a more productive small stream in the North State than this gem. Giggling-good fishing out there right now. Big Stones, sallies, caddis and various mayflies all out and about.

We’ve had some super fun days out there recently throwing the dry fly. You can get heavy and fish the deeper pockets and pools and get em, but the dry/dropper game has been too much fun recently.

A lot of Golden Stones flying and dropping down in the evenings making for quite a fun surface scene. Have yourself a few rods rigged with different methods so...

Upper Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Anthony Carruesco reports on 6.6.18

Upper Sac

There has been some very good fishing to be had on the Upper Sac recently. Being able to “stick and move” is key. Covering a lot of water with the dry dropper rig can be very effective.

Don’t get hung up too long in one spot if they’re not eating. A big stone dry or larger parachute with a heavy dropper has been the ticket for us. Highstickin’ the...
