California Delta Fly Fishing Report

Captain Byrce Tedford reports 6.14.18

Delta

Water temperatures are around 70 degrees so Largemouth & Smallmouth Topwater is going off & has been my focus recently. Stripers are still available but you better be prepared to cast through some serious wind to get them!

June through September I turn my focus to Smallmouth & Largemouth, returning to Stripers come fall. If you are interested in these...

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson reports on 6.14.18

Sierra Nevada

Even though Tioga and Sonora Passes have been open for weeks, we are still awaiting word on the opening of the road down into the Devil’s Postpile area and the San Joaquin River. Hopefully this month?

Fishing, in general, has been up and down the scales. Keep checking the flows as they change in a heartbeat. The Upper Owens has been fun with a plethora of...

Lower Sac Striper Fly Fishing Report

Capt. Hogan Brown reports on 6.6.18

Striper fishing on the Lower Sac is picking up. We have hooked fish up to ten pounds this week and plenty in the 3-4lb range. We have seen the bigger fish chasing shad which is always a fun sight to see them back flipping out of the water as a big striper chases them down.

Water temps are in the 60-67 degree range and moving with temps, light, and structure...

San Francisco Surf Fly Fishing Report

Capt. Kevin DeGulis reports on 6.6.18

Highway 1

Well, it’s time. Time to hit the beaches, this past Sunday LCO hosted another fly fish the surf clinic. The original plan was to fish Crissy Field like the previous clinics, Friday morning George realized that Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon was during our clinic and the race went through Crissy, Baker, and China beach. So I started scrambling different...

Deschutes River Fly Fishing Report

Cory Godell reports on 6.6.18

Oregon

The Bad News is the Salmon Flies are all but gone for another year. We probably have a week or so left of good dry fly fishing with the big bugs.

The Good News is the Caddis and Mayflies are showing in good numbers and the fish are already keying in on them. The further we get into June, the stronger the Caddis hatches will get. More Good News, with the Salmon,...

Monterey Surf Fly Fishing Report

Evan Praskin reports on 6.6.18

Surf

Good morning good morning, what a fine weekend it was out in the Monterey Bay Surf! Fortunately enough for me it was my birthday on Saturday and the wife let me escape in the AM for some surf fly fishing action. The surf was looking great leading into the weekend, but by Saturday evening a second big swell filled in and made things a bit tougher for Sunday. With...

California Delta Fly Fishing Report

Bryce Tedford reports 6.6.18

Delta

Striper fishing has been hit & miss, especially with some very windy days, some days we find a school or two & other days Stripers are tough to find.

With the warm weather, Smallmouth & Largemouth have become the primary game. Water temperatures are around 70 degrees so Largemouth & Smallmouth Topwater is beginning to go off! June through September I turn my focus...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matthew Koles reports on 6.6.18

Truckee

Kinda on fire.

I only say that a few times a year. Yes, the Truckee River is fishing very well right now. Flows have dropped to just about average and the water is warming. Bugs and fish galore. I did have one bad day last week. We fished streamers all day, some days they just don’t chase. If you nymph, or throw the dry dropper, you’ll catch fish.

Ants, no...
