Fishing Report

Pit River Fly Fishing Report

John Fochetti, Clearwater Lodge

The reaches of Pit 3,4, and 5 are all fishing great with some monster fish appearing. Successful fishing is still going to be mostly nymphing under an indicator. Over the last week I have seen many more fish eating the “big bug” (large stonelfy), as well as a lot taken on caddis patterns. The smaller mayflies didn’t seem as effective over the past week. In the...

Rogue River Fly Fishing Report

Jim Andras, Andras Outfitters

What a difference a week makes. We have experienced some wild weather in S. Oregon this week with wind, rain, lightening and fire! Despite multiple fires burning in the region, unlike last summer, smoke really has not been an issue. Rain this morning dropped temperatures to 10 degrees below normal and both factors should help our firefighters. Fishing remains good on...

North Fork Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

image

Jon Baiocchi, Baiocchi Outfitters

This past week on the North Fork Yuba River has seen cooler air temperatures, thunderstorms, heavy rain, and lightning. The weather of late has been a saving grace, giving the river a delightful rejuvenation when it needed it the most during a critical time of the season. Fishing still continues to be great for small wild rainbows, and the scenery is as...

Lower Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Dave Barbieri, Dave Barbieri Guide Service

This week we had really good numbers of trout on the Lower Yuba. Though we had a few really hefty fish on, we couldn’t seem to get the best ones to the net. Most of the trout we caught were on nymphs, with a few on the dry fly. The Lower Lower Yuba is still putting out fair numbers of trout, and some pretty nice stripers. Tune in next week for,...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt Koles, Gilligan’s Guide Service

What a difference a week has made. Last week it was doom and gloom. Trout were going to die, the Truckee River will dry up, etc., etc. I bought into some of the hysteria too, lost some sleep, drank a few to many. Remember, one day at a time. This week is a little different. We are still holding steady in the Hirsch at 200 cfs. Nevada is a different story....

A Toast to Steelhead with Author, Photographer and Fly Fishing...

A Toast to Steelhead with Author, Photographer and Fly Fishing Host Jeff Bright.

We had a great turnout for our Steelhead event. We poured 4 different types of whiskeys.

For Scotch we had Highland Park 15yr which is always a delicious more mild scotch. It was the first bottle to go. We also poured a smokier Talisker Storm for those who enjoy a bolder flavor in their scotch.

For bourbon, we poured Michters. It offers an easy to drink Bourbon with a sweet nose and clean finish.

Lastly we poured a Redemption Rye. This Cask strength Rye whiskey really needs an ice cube or a drop of water at the very least to be appreciated.

Jeff covered his experience of fly fishing for anadromous species 365 days out of the year.

Thank you to everyone who made it out for this event.

Umpqua River Fishing Report

Craig Nielsen, Shasta Trout Guides

For a few years now Craig and Jerri have enjoyed a tradition of friends and family joining them for a week of steelhead fis hing on the Umpqua River in Oregon for Craig’s birthday. This year we celebrated Craig’s second 60th, which one friend noted makes him 120 years old (and he can still fish reasonably well!). We enjoyed our best fishing (and catching) in...

Madison River Fly Fishing Report

Nick Peterson, NorthShore of the Madison

The Madison has been on fire the last couple of days. We’ve had unusual cloud coverage and rain for this time of year where there is no wind or lighting associated with these cells allowing for the fish bite to be really, really good. We are at the tail end of the Nocturnal Stonefly hatch which has allowed for great dry fly fishing in the morning. Around...

Fall River Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal, Reel Adventures Guide Service

Spent Sunday on the lower portion of the Fall River and despite having some decent fishing for a few hours, the smoke from the surrounding fires was nearly unbearable at times. Day-to-day conditions may change due to winds, fire containment, etc. So if you are in the area, you will have to hope for the best and make decisions on fishing for yourself.

Road...

Hat Creek Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal, Reel Adventures Guide Service

Hat Creek put up some good fishing in the early a.m. and late afternoon/evening hours this past week… tricos early, and caddis in the late day.

However, just like the report for the Pit River, wildfires are currently burning in the area.  Road closures, intense smoky conditions, and flames reported up 600 feet in height (!!)

Orders to evacuate have been...
