Hat Creek Fly Fishing Report

Hat CreekAug 7, 20141 min read

Dave Neal, Reel Adventures Guide Service

Hat Creek put up some good fishing in the early a.m. and late afternoon/evening hours this past week… tricos early, and caddis in the late day.

However, just like the report for the Pit River, wildfires are currently burning in the area.  Road closures, intense smoky conditions, and flames reported up 600 feet in height (!!)

Orders to evacuate have been lifted for the communities of Hat Creek, Cassel, and Johnson Park. Evacuation advisory lifted for the town of Burney, so this is great news!

So far the Eiler Fire has destroyed eight homes and 20 outbuildings and nearly quadrupling in size over this past weekend. The fire has burned to as close as 4 miles from the town of Burney. Rain fell Monday and Tuesday in eastern Shasta County, slowing down the fire. But along with thundershowers, additional lightening strikes have been observed.
