Delta Fly Fishing Report

Steve Santucci Reports on 8.11.2016

Striper fishing is improving as numbers of Stripers are hitting the West Delta.   Smallmouth and Largemouth fishing is steady with water temperatures hovering around 75 degrees.  Can’t wait for air and water temps to cool below 70 degrees.  Great fishing is right around the corner.

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt “Gilligan” Koles Reports on 8.1.2016

Coming out of a nasty heat wave up here in Tahoe. Highs went over 100 in Truckee. Not a huge relief in the weather, but it should be cooler this week than last.

100 is extremely hot for us. It was hotter down here in the Hirsch. I have only been fishing in the mornings and getting off the water when it gets hot. Noon has been about it for me. We have mainly...

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson Reports on 8.4.2016

Summer is the time of year when I think about getting into hiking shape. We live at the base of the eastern escarpment of the Sierra and nestled up high, often above timberline, are thousands of lakes. Most of these lakes have some kind of trout: brookies, browns, rainbow, cuttys, and goldens. The California State fish, the golden trout, is a treasure to hold. These...

McCloud River Fly Fishing Report

John Rickard of Wild Waters Reports on 8.4.2016

The McCloud River has got quite a bit of color the last few days. Luckily, the glacial sediment is settling by the time it gets to the conservancy. We have our fingers crossed that we will not see another blown out river this summer. We’ve seen many of our fish come from the nymph, but if you stay out late enough you’ll see rising fish. PMD’s, Caddis...

UPPER SACRAMENTO FLY FISHING REPORT

John Rickard at Wild Waters Fly Fishing Reports on 8.4.2016

The Upper Sac has been fishing really well and many anglers are finding success right through the town of Dunsmuir as well as the lower stretches near Lake Head. The mid day is hard to navigate around the swimmers and tubers so its best to fish in the mornings and late evenings. These days, the fish prefer a bit of shade on the water before they start feeding.

Jon Baiocchi fly fishing reports:Ken Hanley of Pacific Extremes,...

Jon Baiocchi fly fishing reports:

Ken Hanley of Pacific Extremes, John Marcacci, and myself started a project that revolved around high altitude carp in the Northern Sierra. Our location is no secret, it was the first adopted “Wild & Scenic” river in America - The Middle Fork Feather River. It was a tough project to say the least, carp are smart, challenging, with lots of luck involved.

We started...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal reports on 8.4.2016:

Of course I was on the Lower Sac all week…. I could have written a one word report. Ridonkulous.

The much anticipated reopening of the top section of Lower Sac this week was an event and it was pretty spectaculadr. Many big fish were hooked and some were even landed, although quite a few gave unprepared anglers the middle fin and a screamer.

The intention of the...

Lower Sac Fly Fishing Report

Hogan Brown Reports on 8.4.2016

Striper Fishing on the Lower Sac remains good to very good depending on the day. There is a pretty big range of fish on the feed on a daily basis from small shakers to 3-5lbs fish to good double digit fish to true trophies. I saw a fish yesterday follow a nice 8lb fish up that made me and my client weak in our knees…my client actually grabbed my shoulder to steady...

Yosemite Fly Fishing Report

Rick Mazaira at Yosemite Outfitters Reports on 8.4.2016

Try the dry!

This is the time of year to try getting your skills up on a dry fly. The presentation, line management, and casting improvements are worth it. I see a lot of anglers rely on the indicator, and yes it’s very effective, but don’t become a one dimensional angler! This is the time or year to go dry… the fish are responsive.

Mokelumne:
