Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt “Gilligan” Koles Reports on 8.18.2016

Little warm up here again. Descent fishing one day, not so good the next. Dog days of August I guess.

Best thing to do is get out in the mornings and nymph with some crayfish, or caddis and mayfly type combo. Cover some water and make sure you fish the heads of runs/ pools and the fast pocket water slots. It’s also hopper time, you may get a fish or two...

Lower Yuba Fishing Report

8/18/2016

We have been hearing some descent fishing reports from the Lower Yuba. Our buddy Tony Bellaver was up there the other day to test out his new quad spey rod he is working on and landed this fish:

This guy ate a classic swing fly, but we have been hearing fish have been eating PMD’s, BWO, and Caddis and the occasional hopper.

Stay until dark if you can as this time of year the morning and...

Surf Report

Some nice fishing being caught out there. Monterey, Santa Cruz, Pacifica, Ocean Beach, Half Moon bay, Stinson, and Bolinas all have potential to kick out some nice fish. The good ‘OL Chartreuse and white clouser is a favorite.

The Lower Sacramento River in downtown Redding continues to produce incredible fishing. You shouldn’t wait till fall season and the highly popular egg drop… you should consider fishing right now!  August and September will offer up some great days of fishing on the Lower Sac for these badass, super-charged, wild rainbow trout.

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Pretty much the same as last post up here fishing wise on the Truckee River. Nice cool mornings and warm afternoons.

August on the Truckee River, crayfish and caddis. Big fish occasionally and descent action from the smaller fish. The whole river is fishing pretty well. I’ve even done some trips on the Nevada side.

The last few posts I’ve mentioned water...

Lower Sacramento River Fly Fishing Report

Hogan Brown Reports on 8.11.2016

Lower Sacramento Striper Fishing - Fishing has been fair. There are a ton of little fish in the feeding spots so anglers have to fish through the littler fish to get to the bigger ones. That said we have run into some spots with only bigger 5-10lb fish and even seen a few monster follow a fish to the boat that got beat to the fly. Salmon fishing is non existent so...

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson Reports on 8.11.2016

Ahhhh….. we’re enjoying a lull in the local fires. We’ve had two major fires, just to the north and just a few miles from the house. Scary! Thanks to all of the hard working fire personnel who are frantically trying to save California and the West. Enjoy the summer, be careful with campfires, and keep an eye on the water temperatures. Get out there! Have fun!

Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi reports on 8.11.2016

I just completed a 5 day run up on the North Fork Yuba River and my guests and I had such an awesome time as the fishing has been great. Water temperatures are still cool ranging from 55 to 57 degrees in the morning, and topping out at 62 to 64 degrees in the late afternoon in the upper most part of the watershed. Location is everything, and locating where the deep...

Yosemite Fly Fishing Report

Rick Mazaira Reports on 8.11.2016

Earlier this summer I went with my family for a day on the water. A great day and we all caught fish but more than that it was about the experience and the adventure. The Spaniards have this great expression… “fishing is the excuse”, I think it’s about time to leave “accomplishment” out of it and let the experience mean more than a fish to hand. I often encounter...
