Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson Reports on 12.24.2016

As I gaze out the window this morning, a cold, biting fog drifts in and out of the foothills. The sage and rabbitbrush are coated in a delicate frost from the Poconip. The thermometer sits at a chilly 18º F. I may try to sneak away for a couple of hours to fish the Upper Owens, see what I can dredge up before I hop into the car and make the drive to Southern...

Trinity River Fly Fishing Report

Brian Clemens Reports 11.24.16

Well recent rains of done great things for the local fishing here in Sacramento, however, its done some even better things up on the Trinity River.
Despite the hype (poor fishing conditions), we have been doing pretty darn well considering the reports. We are finding a good number of adults on a daily basis, ranging from 22-30", and have seen a few hooked over 30"....

Lower Yuba Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi Reports 11.24.16

image

I finally got a big project finished I started a few weeks ago, and accomplished a brand new PowerPoint that I will be showing at fly clubs, and the fly fishing show at Pleasanton, Ca for 2017. Creating a new presentation from scratch is hard work, but I enjoy every bit of it, it’s like tying a complex articulated streamer with stunning results.

I’m back on the Lower...

Delta Fly Fishing Report

Steve Santucci Reports 11.24.16

Delta fishing is heating up as we approach Winter.  Water temps have dropped into the mid 50’s to 60 degrees depending on time of day.  Fish are very aggressive and taking larger flies.  Also the bigger Stripers are starting to show. Still catching a few Salmon as we fish for Stripers.

Lower Sac Fly Fishing Report

Anthony Carruesco Reports 11.24.16

image

The Sac is currently flowing at 5,000 cubes out of Keswick. Per usual for wintertime flows. Due to the lack of Salmon in the river we had an abbreviated “egg drop” compared to years past. Even with the lack of salmon spawning we still had very good trout fishing on the river. You can checkout some of the evidence here.Variety has been on the menu recently.....

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt Koles Reports 11.24.16

image

It’s more winter than fall on the Truckee River and Pyramid Lake Nevada.

Cold and snow and rain, hopefully it will keep coming.

Good news for both venues as the weather helps the fishing. Cold cloudy days are better than cold sunny days. Just is.

On the Truckee River we’ve been getting into some, not a lot, but some. Those some are usually big this time of year. Trouts...

Deschutes River Fly Fishing Report

Cory Godell Reports 11.24.16

Fall is by far my favorite time of the year to be on the Deschutes. There are still plenty of trout still willing to play, or you can fish for the ever elusive steelhead. When we hit the river yesterday we weren’t sure if we wanted to fish for trout or steelhead. So we decided to string up a nymph rod and see what would bite.
We ended up landing several of really...

Lower Sac and Feather River Fly Fishing Report

Ryan Johnston Reports 11.24.16

image

The Lower Sac is fishing average for this time of year. With the slower start to the Trinity the Sac is still seeing lots of pressure for this time of year. The upper parts of the river are putting out some big fish still but the numbers of chances are down and strikes are super fast. Most days right now on the upper river we are hooking about 25 fish per day. You can...

Rogue River Fly Fishing Report

Andras Outfitters Reports 11.24.16

image

The Rogue fished well fished again over the past week. An active weather pattern continues to cause the river to rise and fall and her steelhead to move upriver. We’re in for another big storm on Friday that could blow the upper river out through the weekend if it materializes as predicted. The weeks ahead should continue to bring a mix of dry and unsettled...

Pyramid Lake Fly Fishing Report

Doug Ouellette Reports on 11.24.2016

The numbers of 15 pound plus Lahontan cutthroat trout this November of 2016 at Pyramid Lake Nevada has been the biggest numbers of big fish since their extrapolation in 1939. Several double digit fish have been recorded this month. These monster trout have been caught on a daily basis. Although the numbers of fish per angler hours are a bit low, the numbers of...
