Lower Sac and Feather River Fly Fishing Report

The Lower Sac is fishing average for this time of year. With the slower start to the Trinity the Sac is still seeing lots of pressure for this time of year. The upper parts of the river are putting out some big fish still but the numbers of chances are down and strikes are super fast. Most days right now on the upper river we are hooking about 25 fish per day. You can hook more fish by going down river but you are going to sacrifice on the size of fish. The fish have definitely switched to eating baetis nymphs and we are now catching most of our fish on Hogan’s SM’s and similar types of flies.

Spent a couple days fishing for bass and trout on Luk Lake this week. Luk is a great private fishery that is managed by The Fly Shop. Fishing was red hot for the trout and bass. If you don’t mind paying a little money for access then it is a great way to avoid the crowds and get some good fishing in.

The Feather River is coming to an abrupt end. There are not many fish left there and there are still lots of people trying to catch them. If you want to go hook a couple fish then that is still a possibility but going and expecting to hook 10+ is now a new distant memory. Eggs are still the main table fair but as we approach to December you would be better off going to another river looking for steelhead.

Coming up I have some openings for those looking to get out to do some fishing in the valley.
