Lower Sac Fly Fishing Report
Anthony Carruesco Reports 11.24.16
The
Sac is currently flowing at 5,000 cubes out of Keswick. Per usual for
wintertime flows. Due to the lack of Salmon in the river we had an
abbreviated “egg drop” compared to years past. Even with the lack of
salmon spawning we still had very good trout fishing on the river. You can checkout some of the evidence here. Variety has
been on the menu recently.. Big bugs, ity-bity bugs, and eggs have all
been catching fish. Each day has been a little different so getting
creative and changing your depths, weight, and flies will be important.
Fish have certainly moved into their winter holding spots.
There will be
a small, steady flow of Winter Salmon into the river in the coming
months so fishing the egg in certain spots should be fruitful. We
usually expect to see some of the bigger trout of the year hit the net
in Winter. Fishing has been exceptional over the past few weeks and
there should be no change here as we move into the heart of winter. I
still have a few December days open to fish one of the best wintertime
trout fisheries in the State.
