Dave Neal’s Nor Cal Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal reports on 6/2/2016

Green light… Go! That is my advice. Many of our mountain freestone and tailwaterish rivers here in Northern California are shaping up nicely. And, the two big spring creeks of the area are also fishing well. I would highly suggest you plan a fly fishing trip soon to hit either the McCloud, Upper Sac, Pit River, Hat Creek or Fall River… or all 5 if you can swing it....

Lower Sacramento  Shad Report

Ryan Johnston Reports on 6/1/2016

The shad fishing continues to hold strong on the Sacramento River outside of Chico. With the warm nights the later evening hours are starting to get better and better. It has been a good shad year this year with most nights resulting in 40ish grabs. The shad fishing is going to be wrapping up the next couple of weeks. So go grab that 6/7 weight with a 250-275 grain...

Wow, where has this year gone, April was EPIC, May was here and gone with some more great fishing, now we are in June and the fishing is really good too. I know I say this a lot, but you should really be out on the water and enjoying some great fishing.

The Northern California Guide reports on 5.26.2016

As far as Northern California fishing goes this is as good as it gets. Now is the time for a sampler trip, fishing 2-4 fisheries in a multi-day trip, from the chunky Rainbows of the Lower Sacramento to the selective Browns of Hat Creek, there is something for every angler and every skill level.

Hear are some photos from the last Upper Sacramento River float and some Spotted Bass fishing in Lake Shasta. It is the time to go, and George at Lost Coast Outfitters knows the flies. Stop in the shop for a few of what they are eating and head north. The Northern California Guide has availability in June and the weather has been amazing. Upper Sacramento is fishing well with Rubber legs (8) and mid-small size May flies. Some dry fly action on Parachute Adams (14) and Stimulaters (8).

Lower Sac is fishing great and it has been a PMD thing for me. Some fish on Caddis and Rubber Legs as well.

Northern California Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal Reports on 5.26.2016

We have experienced a lot of unsettled weather conditions in Redding and the surrounding mountain regions this week. Afternoon thundershowers brought some moodiness and cooler temps to the high country and there was even a bit snowfall on the lower elevation passes along hwy 299 going west and east out of Redding this past weekend.

The cooler than average temps have...

Lower Sac Shad and Striper Report

Hogan Brown Reports on 5.26.2016

Lower Sac Striper fishing

Fishing is picking up for fish that can’t fit a shad in their mouth. True Schoolie fish in the 3-5lb range and a few bigger if you can catch them between feeding on shad. Fish are schooled up so to catch fish you have to cover a lot of water to find the players. Fishing should continue to improve though over the next few weeks as the shad...

Sacramento River Fly Fishing Report

Aaron Grabiel - The Northern California Guide Reports

The Upper Sacramento River is fishing very well on foot or from the raft. We are offering both trips! On foot we will focus on the upper stretches of the river and from the raft we will be on the lower regions of the river above the lake. We are very excited to announce that we are now operating on the Shasta-Trinity-Lassen National Forest...

Lower Sacramento River

Still one of the best shows in town, the Lower Sacramento River right here in Redding, CA continues to provide us with awesome fishing week in and week out. Hatches this past week have been strong in the late morning and afternoon with intense pmd activity leading the charge. Caddis are out in good numbers as well and the bottom of the river...

Lower Sacramento River Fly Fishing Report

AC Fly Fishing Reports on 5.18.2016

It’s no secret that the Lower Sac is one of the finest trout fisheries in the country. Day in and day out, she continues to give us tremendous fishing. From downtown Redding to Cottonwood, the river has fished exceptionally well this Spring. Don’t expect too much to change in the coming weeks. The PMD hatches have been driving the fishing most days. The river is...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

AC Fly Fishing reports on 5.11.2016

The mighty Sac is continuing to kick out above average fishing opportunities. From Redding all the way down to Cottonwood, the river has been stellar this past week. The PMD hatches are getting stronger and so are the Hydropsyche Caddis. A few noses poking through the surface here and there.. That will start to happen more frequently as summer creeps in. Fishing...
