Northern Sierra Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi Reports on 4.20.2016

The Truckee River is fishing pretty well right now, and the flows are dropping into shape. The Glenshire stretch is at 220 cubes, and the upper canyon is running at 625 cfs, a tad higher down by Floriston. With higher flows, fish the side water first before venturing out. All of the fish last week were in deeper slower water next to the main flow/seam. Flesh Juan...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt “Gilligan” Koles Reports on 4.13.2016

Big big water. Well over 1200 cubes here in the Hirsch this last weekend, and now back to around 1000.

The fishing seems to be very difficult if you do not have some experience fishing at these flows. Key is to stay out of the current, good luck. Fish slack edges and do not wade to far out, fish will be at your feet. The whole river is pretty high, so it’s...

A lot of water coming down the river right now. Pretty big flows today, 1,200 cfs here in the Hirsch, and of course higher the lower you go down the river.

Not the best flows, kinda high, fish can be caught, but if you don’t know the river too well, if will be tough. I’m sure it will come back down in a few, but it should still stay relatively high. The...

Truckee & Little Truckee Fly Fishing Report

Matt Heron reports on 3.24.2016

The Truckee continues to hover around 900-1000cfs for the second straight week in a row near Boca and in the canyon. I wouldn’t say this is unusual, but it sure doesn’t happen very often. The drop in flows has been very slow this week and that’s not a bad thing. These are the flows we’ve been waiting five years for!

Now to the fishing…Although the water is high, it’s...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt “Gilligan” Koles reports on 3.17.2016

I think it’s safe to say, the Truckee River is back.

We have big flows and a big snowpack once again, yes, going to be an awesome year. When we are on, or near our average snowpack in our neck of the woods, that’s a lot of f’ing snow. It will all come down eventually.

Flows are still in the 800 range in the Hirsch, and a bit higher down below. That’s a...

Northern California Report

Brian Clemens reports 3.8.2016

Well it likes like the weather has finally come in, mainly the rain and the snow, but some wind as well, and it has been dumping a bunch all throughout Nor Cal. The reservoirs are filling up fast, and things are really looking up for this years water/fishing season. The tough part with all of this is the ever fluctuating river flows, river clarity and over all fishing...

Ok, not too bad, 30″ inches or more in some spots from the last storm. Ridging again for the next week or so and the weather and the fishing should be pretty consistent again.

Flows on the Truckee River have been hovering almost into the 600’s all week. 500 cfs today here in Hirschdale. Nice big flows once again. Good...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt Heron Reports on 2.25.2016

After a bit of lull a few weeks ago, the Truckee has officially turned on again recently. Flows below Boca/Hirshdale have been around 400 cfs. the last few days and water temps have been between 38-44 depending on run off and air temps. Ti’s as good as it gets for February.

Bugs have been pretty much the same over the last month. Bobber fish as by far been the...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi reports on 2.17.2016

I spent another couple of days wading in the Truckee River free fishing on my own the past few days which does not happen very often of late, and I’m so appreciative of being able to. The weather was too nice, so good that just sitting on the bank listening to the river was good enough for me. I did not do as well as last week mostly because I did not put in that...
