Putah Creek Fly Fishing Report

Jordan Romney Reports on 3.31.2016 : https://www.facebook.com/jordanromneyflyfishing/

The Creek has not been very kind to me in the last few weeks. The flows have been abnormally low around 80cfs which is not very fun for anyone. Bring in the dirty water from storms a few week ago only half of the river was clear. It has taken a long time for the river to clear up and 80 cubes of water doesn’t push...

Putah Creek has a lot in common with all the other Northern California Rivers…MUD. I am afraid it is going to get worse before it gets better with storms coming in this weekend. Either way once the weather gets better it should clear pretty fast. Most of the muddy water is coming off the feeder creeks not the lake so the clear water from the lake will most likely...

Well it likes like the weather has finally come in, mainly the rain and the snow, but some wind as well, and it has been dumping a bunch all throughout Nor Cal. The reservoirs are filling up fast, and things are really looking up for this years water/fishing season. The tough part with all of this is the ever fluctuating river flows, river clarity and over all fishing...

It is still a little too early to fish the creek right now. Most of the fish are finishing their spawn cycle and in recovery. It will be a couple of weeks before I get back out there. Typically my starting date out there is March 1st. March is really good month out there in typical years. The fish are hungry and looking to put some calories in their...

Putah is done for the season for me. The fish are in full spawn mode and will continue to do their thing until the end of February. I totally lay off the creek this time of year to give the fish a chance to regenerate the system in peace and suggest you do the same. We are only talking about a 4 ½ mile stretch of water, the fishery is extremely...

Flows are back up around 100. Fishing picked up tremendously the last few days. I have witnessed a more consistent bite with the flows increasing. It seems like our average number of fish hook ups in a day are higher then in the past. I feel that is to do with the growing population of fish in this little system.
Water clarity is a bit off but...

Jordan Romney Reports on 10.20.2015

Putah Creek Report I put several days on the creek last week with very good success despite some very unusual circumstances. We had an 8 person group for a quick half day at the beginning of the week. The creek was flowing at a healthy 240cfs which made it challenging getting into some of the money spots. I think everyone in the group at least hooked a fish. That...

I think it might be time to consider switching to 3x and 4x tippet or bring an extra rod rigged up heavy. Here’s why: Last night I was fishing my normal rig, six and a half foot 4x leader with 5x below my weight, around 5pm and I wasn’t getting any action. Not to mention, I was getting hungry but before I left for home I decided to stick a # 12 bird nest to see if...

Feather River:

Despite what you may hear the Feather is fishing pretty good right now. Over the past 2 weeks the number of steelhead in the system has increased dramatically and we are seeing a good number of steelhead from 12"-26", most are 16-22". Not only are there more steelhead, we are seeing a large number of salmon starting to spawn. Most are staging and...
