Friday

The weekend started off with a bang– or should I say Barred! The entire LCO team (besides Art and George(someone had to work…)) went fishing; Steve, Sarah, Ben, and I headed towards the Golden Gate Bridge.

On the way, we were grooving to some live bluesy tunes from Chicago’s oldest and finest blues bar, Kingston Mines–live blues 7 days a week until...

Delta Fly Fishing Report

Capt. Bryce Tedford reports on 4.5.18

California Delta

Delta Striper fishing has been more of a challenge the last 2 weeks. Dirtier water from recent rains has been moving around in various areas. Recently I am averaging 10-15 fish to 5lbs, the trick has been to find reasonable clean water that is holding feeding fish.

There are a fair amount of fish in the system so as the water continues to clear...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matthew Koles reports on 4.5.18

Big spring flows on the Truckee River.

About 2,300 cfs here in the Hirsch. Lots of water getting dumped out of Lake Tahoe. We all know how good the fishing was last spring in the high flows. Kinda your chance to hook those trophy trouts.

Weathers have been nice, looks like rain this weekend, look for a big bump in flows.

Anywhere you can find slack water you should find...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi reports on 4.5.18

Truckee River

It’s great to be back working the Truckee River again, and with the high flows and another atmospheric river approaching, it’s amazing how productive the fishing can be there with big water. Currently, the flows along Glenshire drive are at 1,940 cubes, Boca Bridge is at 3,420, and near the bottom of the canyon, Farad is running at 3,610 cfs. Water temps...

News flash! Heavy rain on the way Friday into Saturday; a dramatic change from the 80s we were experiencing last week. This is great news! Late rains will help any remaining downstream steelhead get back to the ocean. It will also help with the water table everywhere and provide desperately needed water to headwater tributaries. Every drop counts when 80% or...

Lower Feather River Fly Fishing Report

Capt. Hogan Brown reports on 4.5.18

Lower Feather River the last week was pretty decent for spring steelhead fish both on the swing and nymphing. The swing grab was best the first part of the day on bigger flies but the grabs were pretty short once the sun hit the water. Midday ounce the caddis started to come off switching to smaller soft hackle fly was best. The river is too high and unfishable...

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson reports on 4.5.18

Eastern Sierra

The weather bureaus are starting to send out alerts for this coming weekend. It appears that we have at least one more big, warm, wet, storm system in store for the area with flood warnings being posted as the snow line is going to be somewhere above 11,000 feet. If the weather is as wet as they are forecasting, beware of the roads out on the Upper Owens...

Delta Fly Fishing Report

Steve Santucci reports 4.5.18

California Delta

Delta water clarity is adjusting itself and clearing with each day.  The wind has been the culprit lately.  It makes it difficult if not impossible to fish some of the more exposed areas.  Water temps are hovering between 62 to 66 degrees.  The fish are really aggressive because of the higher water temps when you find them.

Lower Sacramento River Fly Fishing Report

Anthony Carruesco reports on 4.5.18

We’ve had exceptional fishing on the Lower Sacramento River this week. The bigger fish in the river have been showing themselves. Often. Flows are still low and there are still plenty of opportunities to get out of the boat and wade fish.

Here is a short video of a day out this week with a client that wanted to wade fish.

Putah Creek Fly Fishing Report

Putah Creek

One word to sum up the fishing on Putah Creek last month: FIRE! We had some really insane days of fishing in the first half of the month. The fish were hungry and throw caution to the wind when it came to feeding. Despite the crowds, we still were able to find overlooked water. All of my “secret” spots were producing. Lately, it has slowed down a bit. It...
