Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt “Gilligan” Koles Reports on 2.9.2017

The Truckee River has hit flood stage once again this year.

4th time since December.

This is getting a little ridiculous.

Hard to imagine after the long drought. It really hasn’t stopped raining or snowing all winter.

Over 4,000 cfs in Hirschdale is flood stage. Not major, but pumping. 5,000 k last night. Hopefully we can get some colder temps and get the rain...

Klamath River Fly Fishing Report

John Rickard of Wild Waters Reports on 2.9.2017

image

On Super Bowl Sunday the Iron Gate section of the Klamath River saw one guide boat. The clarity of the water was greenish brown and the wind gusted up to 30mph in the afternoon, conditions were tough but we had it all to ourselves. Many of my favorite spots were forever changed as half the trees along the banks were broken and dangling in the river....

Lower Sac and Trinity Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal reports on 2.9.2017

*I just got word that the Lower Sac releases out of Keswick Dam are going to go way up beginning Friday to 50,000cfs, Saturday 60,000cfs and Sunday to 70,000cfs!

Well… it could stop raining tomorrow and I wouldn’t mind one bit. I think for a while we are probably good on precipitation in northern California. I’d love to see it clear and sunny for 7-10 full days and see...

Upper Sac Fly Fishing Report

Bucko Theriot reports on 2.9.17

image

As I am typing this right now, the Upper Sac is currently flowing at 26,700 cfs and is climbing at about 1000 cfs an hour. This river is huge right now and should definitely be avoided, but it is a spectacular site to see! Keep looking forward to spring-time fishing on The Upper Sac and keep dreaming about the big golden and salmon stoneflies in May and June!

Delta Fly Fishing Report

Steve Santucci reports on 2.9.17

Delta fishing is restarting itself. Water temps are in the mid to high 50’s. The water is high but clear water can be found and the Stripers are hitting when you can find them. Fished yesterday and was able to catch five stripers in about three hours of fishing. I feel the Stripers have acclimated to the high water and the fishing can only improve. This next week...

Lower Sac, Feather and Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Hogan Brown reports on 2.9.17

I am not going to dress it up…there isn’t a lot going on fishing wise. The Sac, Feather, and Yuba are ripping and flooding in some areas with the latest rain and there is more rain to come…. Personally, I haven’t been out on the water in over a month. Some of my buddies and fellow guides have been getting some days in on the Coast steelhead fishing between storms, some...

Putah Creek Fly Fishing Report

Jordan Romney reports on 2.9.17

There really is nothing new to report on in regards to fishing Putah Creek.

With the heavy rains the feeder creeks have swelled. The ground is entirely saturated now that it can not absorb any more water. Now every drop that hits runs off into the creeks. This is bad news, and it relates to the fires over the past three years. Thompson Creek and Cold Creek are dry as...

Deschutes River Fly Fishing Report

Cory Godell reports on 2.9.17

Deschutes River
Sorry for the lack of reports. Hitting the river so far this year has been a bit trickier than normal due to the all the snow and crazy weather we’ve been having. But with the few nicer days we’ve had lately, we did manage to get out and fish for a couple hours. Fishing is by no means red hot yet, but we managed to stumble into a few fish on dry flies....

Trinity River Fly Fishing Report

Brian Clemens reports on 2.9.17

This year has been a crazy wet mess so I hope all of you have stayed safe and dry while mother nature shows us her fury. With this wet season, most of you know it has left almost all of Northern California blown out and too high to fish. With more coming down, it doesn’t look like the Sac Valley will clear up anytime soon. However, there has been a glimmer of hope,...

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson reports on 2.9.17

There is not much new to report other than as I write this rain is pouring off our roof by the bucket loads. Amazing. Plus at 6:30 am it is 50º outside. It has to be snowing somewhere, right?….. 14-15K? So, all of our local streams are going to be out of shape until we get a spell of dry weather with all of the added runoff and discoloration.

Lower Owens River
A word of...
