Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Dry fly fishing on the Yuba has been outstanding! Aside for about 5 min last week, we haven’t fished nymphs for about a month. Very good numbers, but fish are definitely schizzy. A superb presentation is essential, as is a quick hookset. To keep things interesting, there is the occasional fish that decides to come up in slow motion (it seems like you can’t...

The Lower Yuba River is on fire right now with abundant hatchesof March Browns, and Pink Alberts! This is it, exceptional dry fly fishing but asusual on the Lower Yuba bring you’re A game, you’re going to need it. It was sointense at one point today we just stopped fishing, and watched the show. Observations can be the best teacher if you’re willing to take a...

Lower Yuba Fly Fishing Report

Taylor Wells, Tailwalker Fly Fishing

March Browns are the main item on the menu in terms of dries. The skwalas seem to be tapering off, but fish are still reacting to them. There are a ton of different bugs out, from pinkies and sallies to midges. Pressure is still high, and most spots have an angler in them. Good drifts with the right bugs are key.

Sunshine and water, the ultimate prescription to a long life and happiness has been the norm on the Lower Yuba River as of late. Water conditions are very clear and low and the flows dropped down to 667 cubes last night, with Deer creek only adding a wimpy 12 cfs. Fishing pressure has been thick in certain areas, but there is still so much water one can fish...

Overall fishing conditions have been good on the Lower YubaRiver, the water is a little clearer than I like it, but we have to deal withwhat is given to us. A small storm rolled through on Friday night and Saturdaythat did not affect the river at all, currently the river is flowing at 721cubes, with Deer creek adding another measly 18 cfs. Angling pressure has...

Like a trout I eased into my prime lie today and got back onto the water sharing the knowledge with my special guests. After being on the 7 Club Tour in Los Angeles and working the Pleasanton Fly Fishing Show for the past two weeks, today was magic. Being on the water does just that. The Lower Yuba River is in grand shape, flows are at about 725 cfs, and the...

Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

All of my trips were on the Yuba this week. When hooking into obscene amounts of fish, it’s hard to go anywhere else! We had some real bruisers (7-8 pounders) on but we weren’t able to land the really big ones. Those were bigger fish than I have seen in the Yuba in a few years.

Fishing was even better this week! Yuba, Feather, or Lower Sacramento, it doesn’t really matter, they are all fishing at their peak. All of these rivers are also extremely crowded. Fish are all taking bugs, as long as they are in the shape and color of salmon eggs.
