Lower Yuba Trout fishing has been good. There are more and more salmon reds every day and the “egg bite” should really get going any time. The River is low though so make sure if you are wade fishing to STAY OFF THE REDS!!! Egg patterns, rubber legs, and small caddis and baetis patterns seem to be the best.

Fishing was very good on the Yuba River this week. Trout are taking eggs,  caddis, and stoneflies. We’ve also been getting some trout on dry flies, especially in the evening!

The Yuba was thick with smoke from the King Fire this morning, but a nice breeze came in around noonand quickly cleared it out. Flows are at 670 cfs. and water temps are great....

The Lower Yuba has been dropped down to 632cfs as of today (15 sept) this is LOW… I have not been over to the Yuba lately but I imagine the egg bite will get going in the next week or two and be pretty darn good for a week or so then the fish will get pretty skittish with the low water…but who knows.

The Yuba fished very well this week! We didn’t get any huge fish to the net, but we are getting very good numbers of fish in the 14 to 17 inch range. Flows have dropped a lot this week, to 650 cfs, and with that comes the people hatch (lots of people). Still, fishing from the boat, we were able to access some “untouched” water, and have success.

Lower Yuba River - Spent a day this weekend on the Lower Yuba and fishing was fair. Flows have dropped to 1200cfs and should drop again here shortly. I did see a pod of salmon moving up river in the lower river and a few stray fish shooting through the riffles in the upper river. We did catch a few nice fish in the 14-16" range on nymphs. This week we had really good numbers of trout on the Lower Yuba. Though we had a few really hefty fish on, we couldn’t seem to get the best ones to the net. We’re still getting stripers on the Yuba.  Though the striper fishing has slowed down, we are still getting enough action to keep it interesting. The dry fly fishing for trout has also picked up a bit. So we can dry fly fish for trout, and striper fish all in the same trip!  Again, not good numbers but double digits anyway.

With the shad thinning out substantially,  the stripers are hungry and aren’t so snobby anymore. The trout have also started to move back in. I’ve been doing some trout/striper combo trips, and have been getting really good numbers of stripers with a few trout in the mix. It’s a great time on the Yuba!
