Fishing Report

Bruce Bell reports: The half-pounders were hitting the nymphs, such as the prince nymph. The big fish were hitting the egg patterns (yellow). The first day we drifted from Iron Gate Dam down to the first bridge, and Kevin caught the 22  inch fish that you see. The second day we drifted from that bridge down to the I-5 bridge, and Kevin caught a 20 inch steelhead and was spooled by a 30+ inch fish. Remarkable …. Then we fished the Sac through Redding, and not even a single bite!

Lower Sac

Trout and steelhead fishing has been good to great. Clarity on the lower river has been an issue but should be fine by early this week on all stretches as I heard by the end of yesterday pretty much everything was...

The Lower Sacramento River has been lights this week! Colder nights and cooler daytime temps, along with some much-needed rain have kicked the Chinook salmon spawn into high gear. It finally feels like fall. From the Posse Grounds to Cottonwood the big kings are doing their thing and the fishing is a version of angler trick or treating – sometimes they get...

I spent the last weekend on the Lower Sac floatingfrom Red Bluff down to Los Molinos looking for trout and steelhead. We hooked 2 nice steelhead and a fair number of trout. Fishing was good but there was no salmon to be found up on reds and that stretch really needs fish up on reds to go off. That said hooking into...

The Lower Sac is happening right now. The Kings are still slowly starting to cut redds and spawn. The spawn is definitely a little late this year compared to the previous few. This is most likely due to the higher than normal water temperatures. Eggs are catching fish throughout the river when put in the right spots. Other than that, little baetis and small...

Lower Sac Striper fishing remains good. There has been some big fish hooked this week by a few anglers I know and then by a few of my clients…fish in the 35-45lb range. There are good numbers of 3-8lb fish around and they are pretty grabby with a few in the 10lb range mixed in. It seems on most days anglers are getting a shot at a big fish in the 20+lb range...

We’ve had many fun days on the Lower Sac this week with solid numbers of well-fed and hard charging rainbows coming into the net, along with a few steelhead in the lower river as well. Memories were made, trips re-booked (in some cases extended another day) it’s amazing how many anglers out there have yet to experience this amazing tailwater river right...

The Lower Sac has fished very well this past week with lots of big, well fed, wild trout coming to the net – along with reports of a few steelhead poking around down below Cottonwood.

The big river on many days has offered us plenty of solitude! Seems that a lot of folks have been saving their fishing equity for the October egg drop madness that hits town...
