Lower Sacramento Striper Report

Hogan Brown Reports on 7.8.15

Lower Sacramento River Striper fishing - Fishing remains good with lots of smaller fish around and nice 4-8lb fish in the mix with the occasional monster. Most days we are hooking a few big fish and as we move into mid July we should start to see the really big fish get active. As the summer moves on fish will move into shallower and shallower water and we will start...

Burney Area Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal Reports on 7.8.15

There are many solid trout fishing options in the North State right now! This week should be particularly awesome with the cooler weather & overcast afternoons we are experiencing.

Currently, I’m most excited about fishing Fall River, Lower Sac, and the Pit #3, while doing skills-building sessions for beginners, kids, and novices on places like Hat Creek, Burney Creek...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Hogan Brown Reports:

Lower Sacramento River Striper fishing is good right now. Lots of small fish in the 16-25" bracket with a few in the 5-8lb range then usually about 1-2 a day in the BIG category…don’t always land them or get a good hook set but knowing they are there and eating is a good thing….sometimes they even eat a fish you have hooked. Pretty standard fishing though as early in what we...

John Rickard of Wild Waters Fly Fishing Reports on 6.25.2015

The Mt Shasta region has been fishing well this summer. The days are hot and long but there is no better place to be than in a cool river catching trout. June highlights have been the McCloud River. A dry fly fisherman’s dream, The McCloud has had some great hatches this June. We went from salmonflies in the early days of June to golden stones, green drakes, and lately the pmd’s and yellow sallies. Some large fish have crushed some big stone patterns lately, just a couple of those kind of takes is all I need to smile big all day.  The McCloud should remain awesome but expect the upcoming full moon to slow the bite. As the water warms the dead drift becomes less meaningful, swing some soft hackles and hang on.

Meanwhile, other fisheries like the Sacramento have been delighting anglers with some big bows, drift trips on the Lower Sacramento have been great in the mornings or evenings, our guides have been reporting good dry fly action!

What the Hex else is there? Oh yeah, those big yellow mayflies are being eaten by bass and trout nightly. Fifteen minutes of crazy fishing, dont tangle or break one off or you’ll miss the bite.

We have been busy but we still have openings and would love to get you on the water. Check out all these photos from our latest trips and go fish.

Lower Sac/ Yuba Fly Fishing Report

Hogan Brown Reports on 6.24.2015:

Lower Sac Striper Fishing– There is a TON of young stripers in the river right now. Lots of shaker size fish and 17-20” fish. The big fish seem to be slowly coming out of their shad coma and getting on the feed. I have had clients land and loose a few nice 20+ pound fish and have seen some pics from friends of bigger ones caught but I still think the big ones are...

McCloud/Sac River Fly Fishing Report

Anthony Carruesco Report on 6.24.2015

We’ve had some great opportunities to throw the dry fly over the past week. From the McCloud to the Lower Sac, fish are looking up in the early morning for spent caddis, small mayfly and trico spinners.

Evenings have been consistently pushing the hydropsyche caddis along with small pale evening duns. There is no real reason to be out on the water mid-day...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

AC Fly Fishing Reports on 6/16/2105:

the Lower Sac has been giving us some killer fishing as well. Mornings and late evenings have been the time to be on the water. Last light dry fly fishing is alive and well right now. If you want the chance at a few big, bad, Lower Sac trout on a dry fly, now is a good time to check it out. A half day float on the Sac is highly recommended.

Lower Sacramento outside of Chico - 6/11

Hogan Brown Reports:

Shad fishing has really tapered off and striper fishing has started to pick up. There has been a 40lber caught by a buddy this last week and I have had clients loose a few fish in the 20-30lb class over the last week as well. Need to go out with my under water chain saw and chop up some snags. MOST fish though are in the 2–8lb range and hitting the fly aggressively. There are some options early morning to throw top water and even midday there are fish cruising the shallows eating that will eat a poper but most fish are coming on sinking lines and bait fish patterns. This is just the start and striper fishing will continue to improve and get going over the summer.

Best,

Capt. Hogan Brown

Lower Sac Report Redding

AC Fly Fishing Reports

The temperatures are climbing back into the 90s starting tomorrow. Redding is far from the coolest place in the summertime but the Lower Sac will continue to kick out some great fishing opportunities. Even during those triple digit days we see some of the biggest, hottest fish of the year. The McCloudhas also been a good option.. we had some great fishing there last week....

Lower Sacramento (Chico) Fishing Report 6/4/2015

Hogan Brown reports

Lower Sacramento River out side of chico, Ca - Shad fishing remains good with some bigger fish in the mix. Best bite has been 4pm to about 7pm. Concentrate on fishing areas where fish concentrate - Slots, choke points, etc. Big open flats or gravel bars can produce but they do not concentrate schools of fish so it can be a crap shoot.

Top water bass fishing on the river has...
