Lower Sacramento (Chico) Fishing Report 6/4/2015

Lower Sacramento RiverJun 4, 20151 min read

Hogan Brown reports

Lower Sacramento River out side of chico, Ca - Shad fishing remains good with some bigger fish in the mix. Best bite has been 4pm to about 7pm. Concentrate on fishing areas where fish concentrate - Slots, choke points, etc. Big open flats or gravel bars can produce but they do not concentrate schools of fish so it can be a crap shoot.

Top water bass fishing on the river has been good as well. The bigger bass seem to have gotten a little more wary but plenty 1-3lbs spotted bass, Largemouth bass, and a few smallmouth bass are willing to come up and smack a frog popper or small crease fly. The “fry emergence” is heavy in most slough and back waters and fishing smaller unweighted bait fish patterns around “fry balls” can get some of the bigger bass that are not coming up for frog patterns as readily.

Striper fishing is picking up as the shad thin out and the smaller stripers that can’t fit a shad down their gullet are starting to eat more readily. Striper fishing should really get going over the next few weeks and we should see another great summer of striper fishing.
