Lowe Sacramento River Fly Fishing Report

Hogan Brown Reports on 11.12.2015

Been guiding the Lower Sacramento River the last few days…spending most of my time down low from Red Bluff down to Corning. There is good numbers of nice trout eating around the areas where there are spawning salmon and there are good numbers of hatchery and wild cookie cutter steelhead around, about 18-22". There are also some larger adults in the mix up over 25"...

Trinity River

The flows on the Trinity River are down to 300 cfs and will remain there until Mother Nature cooperates in the form of rain. The lower flows are making it a little more difficult for the drift boats, but rafts and wade fishermen are having no problems. The good news is that the fishing is excellent, with steelhead being hooked...

Lower Sacramento River Stripers

I spent that last week for and guiding for stripers on the Lower Sac outside of chico. Fall fishing for stripers can be really good or really tough depending on the weather. Unstable weather really shuts the fishing down but if the weather is stable for a few days the fish can really get on the feed. This saturday we hooked a bunch of...

Bucko Theriot Reports on 10.22.2015

“O WOW, MY ARM IS BURNING,” -Client on the lower sac. If you want that burning feeling from constantly fighting big bows on the lower, then now is the time! I have seen a lot more salmon in the river this past week and the egg bite is only going to get better. Make sure you watch out for the salmon redds if you are going to try and wade this river.

AC Fly Fishing Reports on 10.15.15

Fishin’ on the Sac is pretty damn good right now. The Kings seem to be stalling their spawn a wee bit still, waiting for cooler water. That hasn’t stopped the big trout from looking for those little round balls of protein. Certain spots have actively spawning salmon. Those spots will give you multiple shots at chunky trout. It only takes a pair of spawners to have...

AC Fly Fishing Reports on 10.8.2015

The Egg drop is slowly but surely starting on the Lower Sac. Kings are slow to get going because of the warmer than average water temperatures. You can expect it to be wide open by the end of the week. Bugs are still catching fish, so are the huevos.

I just had a few days open up from cancelations.. As of right now I have this coming Friday open as well as...

Lower Sacramento River

It’s been a fantastic summer on the mighty “Lower Sac”.  Our wild rainbow trout are in extremely good shape heading into the Fall and i’m sure they’re anticipating the Egg drop just as much as I am. Peak season is upon us, be sure not to miss it.

What’s on Tap?

If you haven’t booked your Fall fishing trip yet, it’s not too late. As many of my days are already booked, I take great pride in working with the best network of independent guides around. We still have plenty of guide dates available for the Fall season.

  • October: EGG BITE on the Lower Sac. Many folks consider this “prime time” for our big trout gorging on Salmon eggs. Steelhead are available in the Lower River as well.
  • November: Lower Sac egg drop is still happening. Klamath and Trinity Steelhead
  • December: Big trout time on the Lower Sac, Klamath and Trinity River Steelhead. We typically see the bigger fish of the season in December.

Lower Sac Striper Report

Hogan Brown Reports on 10.1.2015

Lower Sacramento River Striper Fishing - I have been guiding stripers over the last week on the Lower Sacramento. Fishing has been fair to good. There are good numbers of schoolie size fish on the grab and we have seen some nicer fish in the 8-12lb range each day with a few MONSTERS chasing flies or following a hooked fish to the book. Fishing should remain good...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Anthony Carruesco reports on 9.17.2015

Stallar fishing continues on the Lower Sac. Morning sessions have been borderline insane. Not many boats out fishing at all, especially during the week. Hydropsyche hatches have been coming off late morning and driving the fishing. A lot of large fish are eating. Putting the right bug in the right spot matters. As soon as you get that down you’ll have a hell...

Lower Sac Striper and Feather River Fly Fishing Report

Hogan Brown Reports on 9.17.2015

Lower Sacramento Striper fishing - Striper fishing has been hit or miss this last week. The river fish are very sensitive to changes in the weather this time of year and big swings of temperature the last week have put them on and off depending on the day and weather. Our fish are resident fish so they don’t go anywhere they will just go off the bite. The good news...
