Trinity River Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal reports on 9.6.18

We may have finally turned the corner as far as smoke and air
quality in the north valley. Air conditions the last few days in and
around Redding have been stellar with cleaner air and blue skies. In
addition, the daytime highs have been cooler than average in the
high 80’s low 90’s this past week… Morning’s and evening’s have
that feel like fall is in the air!

The Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Ryan Johnston reports on 9.6.18

The Lower Sac below Red Bluff has been really fun the last couple of weeks. It is the time of year where we start focusing our efforts on the lowest sections of the Lower Sac looking for trout, steelhead, stripers, and bass. The trout fishing down here has been really good as of late. Add in some nice stripers swimming around and the first wave of steelhead makes for...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Hogan Brown reports on 9.6.18

Lower Sac Striper Fishing - Striper fishing is hitting the fall season and fishing has been pretty good with double digit fish each day and good numbers of 5-8 pound fish. There are TONS of salmon boats on the water as the salmon fishing on the Lower Sac has been pretty dang good which means the egg bite for trout and steelhead fishing in the lower river should be...

Central Valley Striper Fly Fishing

Capt. Chuck Ragan reports on 8.27.18

Striper on the fly in our Central Valley Rivers has been pretty rewarding.  We’re seeing great temps and active groups of fish on the Feather, Sacramento, Yuba and American Rivers.  Weather has been pleasant, clarity has been good, numbers have been good to great and much of the smoke if not all has cleared.

If you’re on the books, we’ll look forward to seeing...

Lower Sacramento River Fly Fishing Report

Capt. Hogan Brown reports on 8.27.18

Lower Sac Striper fishing has been good if you can get away from the salmon boats. There is salmon in the river and salmon fishing has been good…so that means LOTS of boats out chasing salmon. After a few years of really really poor salmon returns everyone is geared up to go catch salmon. That means we have to be a bit sneaky when it comes to striper fishing...

Sacramento River Stripers

Fishing on the Sacramento River near Chico remains solid for stripers. As is typical in August our numbers start to decrease but we start seeing more quality fish later in the season that we go. The best fishing the last couple of weeks has been in the middle parts of the day from 11AM-2PM being the best bite.

This time of year it really...

The big news in northern California these past few weeks has been
the large wildfires… The Mendocino Complex (largest fire in
modern CA history) and the Carr Fire (6 th most devastating fire)
along w/ two others - the Hat Fire and Hirz Fire burning near Hat
Creek/Fall River and McCloud River arm of Lake Shasta, respectively.

The Carr Fire, which devastated areas to the west...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Capt. Hogan Brown reports on 8.9.18

Lower Sacramento River Striper Fishing has been good. Bigger fish are showing and with cooler weather and smoke fish are up in the water column eating with a bit more confidence.

There are also good numbers of salmon and salmon anglers in and out on the water pushing fish to the edges and giving us good opportunities at larger fish.

The bite has been best at...

Lower Sacramento Striper Fly Fishing Report

Ryan Johnston reports on 8.9.18

The striper fishing on the Sacramento River has been really solid the last few weeks. The numbers this last week started to fall off as is typical in August. We are probably seeing about 25% less fish being landed but it seems as though the quality is starting to ramp up.

Seems like we are starting to see more quality fish each day. The water temps are still on the...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

The Lower Sacramento River has been giving it up per usual. Smoke is around, some days much more than others. This will be a common theme in most of California for the coming couple of months.

Not a lot of bugs hatching so mixing it up a bit with your fly selection has been necessary. Fish are spread out and the river is fishing well from top to bottom.
