Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Lower Sacramento RiverSep 6, 20181 min read

Hogan Brown reports on 9.6.18

Lower Sac Striper Fishing - Striper fishing is hitting the fall season and fishing has been pretty good with double digit fish each day and good numbers of 5-8 pound fish. There are TONS of salmon boats on the water as the salmon fishing on the Lower Sac has been pretty dang good which means the egg bite for trout and steelhead fishing in the lower river should be good…even caught a few steelhead on clousers lately.

The key to finding good striper fishing is knowing where and when the salmon guys are fishing. Finding water that doesnt have 50-75 boats running up and down it is key. While salmon and salmon anglers push the bigger fish to the banks and there can be great fishing around the salmon anglers there is a happy medium, and when certian boat ramps have 50-75 trailers at them the happy medium is exceded so knowing how to get away from salmon traffic is the key.

Best fishing has been morning until about 1pm and then again during the evening. Waters temps came up a bit sense last week as the weather has warmed up a bit as well. Fall fishing should continue through the months of October and November and then Winter fishing usually starts during the first of December.

A few dates open on my boat but my other captains have dates open as well if you are looking at getting out this fall and winter on the Sac for stripers
